Hey, some effort is required before I accept you as a part of my team. What are you bringing to the table (and please note that there's more to this than talking a good game)?

I don't think I know any regular poster who hasn't done it at some point.

Maybe not benji.

This is funny, I've done it too.  I really mean to never go back when I say Im done, and I try to occupy with another thread. Until I see shit scrolling up..."marietoo this" .... "marietoo that" .  It can be very hard.  Sometimes I succeed, other times I cave in.  heh.

Isn't "game on" a heathen Americanism?  Do they really say "game on" in happy England?

Equally pathetic is the "I'm on your side" comment passed from poster to poster. Do some people think they're at war?........"going in, you're either with me or against me".

Gent....

I'm afraid you are correct ; some do feel this way - And that's about the time they should get-up from out of their chairs and say ''Adios Amigo'' to their 'puter and go do something fun in the physical world.

It's been around for as long as I can remember. I always assumed it is a British term - "she's game" etc.

Some American slang was picked up when American soldiers were based here in WW2 (like the bees knees being an American variant of the British the dog's bollocks) and some of it is still used today. If it is an American term then that's probably when it was picked up.

The other thing LaM, my parents' generation (growing up in the 1950s/60s) were smitten by the US due to films and music so I imagine a lot of sayings will have been picked up from American films around that time.

Anyway, don't you have your happy and heathen the wrong way round?

Interesting.  I can't always tell what's idiomatic in England and what's isn't, because I've only been there three or four times in my life.  (And I know nothing about how people speak in the rest of the U.K., except I think those Scottish accents are cute, especially on girls.)

"Game on" and "she's game" aren't exactly the same thing, but I guess they're related.

ooo i hate that EVEN more in life.  OMG - i always want to smack the person silly and usually respond cordially with "i am on my side".  What they think is they're on the playground and still playing sandbox games.

though i must admit... they aaaaaaaare fun sometimes... heh  "im right x infinity and beyond"  My Dom won an arguement the other night by sticking that "beyond" in there.  Couldnt think of what comes after beyond?  Beyond beyond?  I've managed to stick that into a few debates and of course.. i won the debate!  lmao

'Game on' is definitely an Americanism. I'm older than NG and I remember its introduction, at the end of the seventies I think. 'She's game' is British and has been around since the time of the Magna Carta as far as I can tell.

That sounds right to me, and I think "game on" does date to the 70's.

What happens to me is, I may start with a thread then not be able to find it when I come back. So I cant keep up. I also cant keep up since I cant get on every day.

Thirdly I have trouble remembering who everyone, is and what everyone's saying or what they're story is or who is who. So I doubt I could get into any bru ha ha with anyone, since I feel like I have no memory left at all!

Every time I come on I feel brand new to the conversation. I like it that way I guess. It makes a for a good time.
