kc692 -> Effectiveness of Hypnosis on Submissives vs. Dominants (12/3/2006 7:55:09 PM)

My slave and I were discussing hypnosis after watching a program that touched on it earlier today.  She had been successfully hyptonized in the past, and I related a story to her concerning Me when I was younger.  When I was in my late teens, a professional hypnotist attempted to help me stop smoking.  It was an unsuccessful session, even though I tried to comply with his instructions. My slave stated that possibly it was more successful with her rather than I because of My dominant personality and that fact made it harder to "go under" anyway.  So here is the question:  Do you feel that having either a submissive or dominant personality affects the effectiveness of possible hypnosis?  Do you feel that a submissive personality may find it easier to "let go", relax, and be more susceptible to the effects of hypnosis than a dominant one?

I attended a course given by LthrEdge a few years ago on hypnosis and he made a humorous observation about it always being tougher with doms because they are too worried about letting go and giving up control to someone else.

I think there's a lot of truth to that- it's more an uncomfortability and an insecurity.

And IMO it has nothing to do with personality, since plenty of subs have dominant personalities.

You are correct in the way I worded it, I meant dominant versus submissive without the personality adjective as my subs have had dominant personalities much of the time.  I'm not sure about whether I agree with the "afraid" to give up control; I tried to comply with the hypnotist to the best of my ability..it just wasn't happening.

I use hypnosis in my practice and I assure you, both dominant and submissive personalities can be hypnotized equally well.  The key is willingness and trust on the part of the person being hypnotized.

Connection between the hypnotist and the client is everything.  If you want it to happen, 9 times out of 10 it will.

I cannot be hypnotized.  Not sure why, Ive tried allowing it to happen, and it just dosent work. I can however, hypnotize others. I think a ig part of it is willingness, and trust.  If you can trust the person trying to put you under, your far more likely to be able to go.

Same problem with me DV, and I tried my best to do it.  I didn't distrust him, he was a professional, I just never "went under"..he spent a half hour at least trying to put me under, and I was very very relaxed when it was over,(he had the perfect voice for it) but that was about it.

What you're talking about seems to me to be a lack of some understandings of hypnosis on the part of the people who worked with each and both of each of you.

kc692 -> RE: Effectiveness of Hypnosis on Submissives vs. Dominants (12/3/2006 9:20:04 PM)

I don't understand what you mean....the person that worked with me performed hypnosis professionally, what do you mean by lack of understanding?

FangsNfeet -> RE: Effectiveness of Hypnosis on Submissives vs. Dominants (12/3/2006 9:32:06 PM)

A person can't be hypnotised unless they want to be hypnotised. We've all seen it. Sit back, close your eyes, count from ten to one, and listen to what I say. Hypnosis is nothing more than a pep talk for motivation.

I get a kick out of people who say

1. I was hypnotised, I can say NO to junk food.

2. I was hypnotised, I can so NO to sex.

3. I was hypnotised, I no longer get nervous.

4. I've been hypnotised, I can now etc.. etc... etc.....

Hypnosis works because the person wants it to work and makes it work themselves. There's no giving up of controll with hypnosis. It's all you kid.
