I don't think it's uncommon. It seems to be uncommon for all parties to go about it in an adult way.
If you want to be ethical about it, you let your wife know what you are looking for. You all may never make one big happy family, but she does deserve to know if you want to keep a healthy relationship with her.
I'm in a vanilla relationship. My bf knows about my activities. I am clear that I'm not looking to replace him. I'm also clear with my bottom guys that I'm not going to be their gf. However, I will try to be available for them when I can be, I take a friendly position in their lives, and the time that my bottom folks and I spend together is "our" time. I expect we will spend it focused on each other.
Not every dominant wants the 24/7 thing. You'll need to be upfront in your search to not give the impression that 24/7 is a possibility with you.
So is it wrong? Depends on how you handle it.
