AmakeYumi -> Premature Petnames (12/5/2006 10:24:01 AM)

A few of the doms I've recently chatted with seem to think its necessary to start calling me "little one" , "pet", or  other various names. I personally think that they shouldn't until we've become dom/sub.

Recently I was talking to a dom that called me his "little one" and his potential sub just after a few hours. Silly me, I got all giggly and totally blinded. A few days later he said he had to think about things and I havent heard from him since (nearly a week).

So ever since I knew I wouldn't be hearing from him again, I started to wonder why he'd treat me like then, then just up and leave. Do doms start with the pet names early to manipulate subs? To maybe blind them from seeing who they really are?Or just to get whatever they want from them?

I don't think I wrote that properly, my head is a big jumble at the moment.

Well.......I think you have been had by Disappering Domly Dan. This cat will blind you to what is there and make up a world that doesn't exsist (at least with him anyway) your flying over submissive field of flowers when........oooops.......he's gone! Happens a lot. Better it happens early than after a few play dates.

As far as pet names....I really don't mind them as long as they are tame.

MissyRane -> RE: Premature Petnames (12/5/2006 10:32:06 AM)

Many people are against being called this or that name before they actually get involved with the person, others just do it..because they do it. I call people various names like luv honey cutey sweetie girlfriend etcetc even though I aint involved with them, but that's just because I'm used to it, it's just part of my personality, you should let people know if you don't like being called this before getting involved with them[:)]

and on here...no offence to all the lovely people out there, it's nearly guaranteed that you end in a situation where the person flirts with you and then disappears, welcome to the cyber world[:D]

I don't mind "vanilla" pet names. but to me bdsm type nmes hold more meaning. Only my dom calls me Pet, and only he's allowed to. But I have informed most of the guys. I just got caught up in everything else he said, and the fact that he was extremely good looking. It was dumb of me.

MissyRane -> RE: Premature Petnames (12/5/2006 10:45:18 AM)

He was probably married and using you as a distraction from his unhappy vanilla marriage.  Lots of that going around.  Or else he found someone else to manipulate that was more interesting.

Cyber-play is not real for most of the people who do it.  It's a game, like a MORG.  If what you want is something real, find a way to do things with real people and avoid chat rooms and online play.

Somehow I knew you would be in on this Holiday, pookey.

As for me - I call my girl "girl" - it saves a lot of embarassment in a clutch - and, I can barely remember my name.

My theory is that they think it makes them seem more 'domly' and 'experienced in the scene' to call a submissive 'little one'.  Personally I think little one is such a horribly patronising cliche that the use of it is guaranteed to make me write off its user as a total doofus.

I wouldn't call it "play". We were talking normally, and were trying to get to know eachother to see if we wanted to meet and maybe become dom/sub.

MmakeMme -> RE: Premature Petnames (12/5/2006 1:14:13 PM)

Perhaps to some it is merely habit. If it wouldn't turn your head in real life, don't let it turn your head here. Trust but verify.

I think some dominants feel naturally protective towards submissives in general and they feel that such terms are reflective of their place (self-appointed though it may be) as their protectors.

For the 'most' part, I don't think it's meant to be offensive, but if it bothers someone, they can make it clear they'd prefer to be addressed as an adult until such time as they agree upon a different dynamic.

Dominants are mistaken to believe that 'all' female submissives want/need protection and appreciate being made to feel small and vulnerable and in need of a daddy type. It's not a problem at all to set them straight and disabuse them of their notions.

I didn't have time to read through the thread (yet), but this seems familiar.  [:D]  Yes, there are "doms" that will start calling you 'little one' or whatever else on the second or sometimes even the first message.  Why this is, I'm not sure.  What I have found so far is that none of them have been worth my time.  The most recent one wrote me several times and then finally posed a little scenario, apparently to see if he could get lucky later.  I told him that if said scenario were to happen, the imaginary dom in question would find himself out the door in 30 seconds or less for breeching a previously stated hard limit.  Needless to say, I never heard from "Mr. Chatty" again after that.

Go figure.  [;)]

Is a premature pet name something like "you cute little quick-comer"?

No, I think she was thinking more in terms of when you call them  cunts before you get know them really well.
