Robert Gates is evidentially our (US's) Secretary of Defense. He says we are losing the war in Iraq ("duh") but is confident The Shrub will listen to his ideas. Ideas? Like what? Peace with Honor? candystripper

O'course, i have received a tongue-lashing from the eco-terrorist camp for my own "Shrub" references. W/we need a moniker which is politically correct for the Idiot Missing His Village. candystripper

I wonder if he has any plans to put Troops on that Mexican border? It's getting worse there by the day. The drug cartels are now decapitating their rivals and leaving them in the desert and taking pot shots at Border Patrol Officers. They've wounded a few so far , no deaths "yet" though.

How many times do you have to be told that federal law forbids the use of federal troops in law enforcement?

Federal Troops can be used to stem invaisions as per Section 4 of the Constitution. Also, the "Law Enforcement" part, "Posse Committatus" applies to U.S. Citizens not Foreign Nationals! That is Federal Troops can't arrest U.S. Citizens. For example in Iraq and Afganistan our Troops are arresting suspected terrorists. Also, if Bush would just start doing his job he could declare Martial Law along that entire Mexican border. In that case they could shoot on site anyone who was within a certain designated area.
