A reasonable comparison would be somebody who studies the Hydrogen atom to determine how it works, as opposed to somebody who studies the Hydrogen atom in order to make an engine that will drive your car. He was not studying the immunology of pregnancy to find a cure for HIV, so the conclusion you draw from your premise is incorrect, because your premise is flawed.

General questions to believers. Why do people think god is on their side? Why do countries appear to think god is on their side? Why do countries that have been to war an caused mass death and carnage think god would find it acceptable? Why do people who have been defeated in war and subject to mass murder and humiliation still think god is on their side? Why do people who have had terrible tragedies in thier life or have experienced horrendous events think that god is relaying some meaning, some lesson that is to be learnt in such things. Why don't any believers think when they have been through terrible happenings that god just doesn't like them?
