JerseyKrissi72 -> Bed Bugs (12/7/2006 9:07:10 AM)

Every time I hear "sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite" I cringe...Once, I got a couch from a neighbor and it was infested with bed bugs! I ended up in the hospital for six hours, swollen up and with a fever...Bed bugs are horrible creatures that suck on your blood, make your skin itch and burn...and are almost impossible to get rid of ...I suggest if you get used clothing to wash it first in hot water before bringing them into your home...make sure you spray the furniture if you get used furniture very well and let it stay outside 24 hours before bringing it inside......I never heard of bed bugs before I had this problem..anyone else have incidents with bed bugs?

My mom and aunt had this problem over the summer.  My aunt is severly OCD and has issues throwing things out, cleaning them properly, or replacing them and, as a result, the couch she slept on every night for over a decade developed them and the cats spread them to my mothers bed and both had to be removed.

They are only replacing them THIS month because I'm spending a week with them over the holidays and will need MY old bed to sleep on.

As a present I'm getting my mom a new bedding set.

I've never had an incident although I saw a report a few month's back that some of the best hotels around have bed bugs.
You don't know usually either until you are itching..and all bit up.

It is definately best to check out the sheets before you lie down.

I find myself checking the sheets and in the cracks of the mattresses now when I go to hotels....I worry about bedbugs alot now lol

First spiders, now bedbugs... Does no one here want me to be able to sleep anymore??? *sob sob*

I remember that story too, sub4...and was thinking that pulling blankets back won't reveil the critters; they hide well....until food presents itself (that would be you or me!).

I googled Where to find Bed Bugs:  http://www.uky.edu/Ag/Entomology/entfacts/struct/ef636.htm

Blech!  I'm happy to say, I've never experienced 'em!

Ok...this thread is officially creeping me out! [sm=hewah.gif]

JerseyKrissi72 -> RE: Bed Bugs (12/7/2006 12:09:54 PM)

Well, when I got rid of the couch, washed all the clothes in the house and removed the carpet in the living room i FINALLY got rid of them...a horrible memory...ugh

spankmepink11 -> RE: Bed Bugs (12/7/2006 12:11:46 PM)

How about a spider that became a "bed" bug .  I  opened my eyes one morning to find a big black spider not only on my bed....but on the pillow right next to mine.

MasterKalif -> RE: Bed Bugs (12/7/2006 12:13:36 PM)

darn....thats too bad, sorry to hear that JerseyKrissi72....I am betting that you don't like that neighbor as much as you used to....I have luckily never had that problem, it boggles the mind....always wondered how they appeared...I guess you just have to have clean sheets often and air out the place.[:@]

JerseyKrissi72 -> RE: Bed Bugs (12/7/2006 12:23:57 PM)

Being poor, I find myself having to buy used furniture from time to time but NOW I spray everything down with the best bug spray and let it sit in my friend's garage for 24 hours..never had a problem since doing so....I pretend EVERYTHING has bed bugs on them now lol

Lordandmaster -> RE: Bed Bugs (12/7/2006 1:02:54 PM)

Supposedly, bedbugs are becoming a big problem again, and no one is quite sure of why.  One theory is that people call the exterminator less often than they used to, and that has allowed bedbugs to resurge en masse.

I wonder if we could pull the sheet's back and put a snickers there.  Would they take that over us?  Come out of hiding for the chocolate...
Or is it only human flesh they like?

Bearlee -> RE: Bed Bugs (12/7/2006 1:14:58 PM)

naw, they prefer blood to chocolate; the little suckers!
