JerseyKrissi72 -> Pez---favorite candy from your younger years? (12/7/2006 9:12:28 AM)

http://www.pezcentral.com/history.html

In 1927 in the country Austria, Edward Haas came up with this new peppermint candy.The word PEZ comes from the German word for peppermint (pfefferminz). It was an adult breath mint that he decided to market as an alternative for smoking. From the word pfefferminz they took the first, middle and last letter and came up with the word PEZ.

PEZ was carried around in pocket tins. Then in 1948 they came out with the "easy, hygenic dispenser" that we all recognize now to be a regular. In 1952 PEZ wanted to expand their sales so they set their sights on the U.S.A., to make their product more appealing to Americans. They placed heads on the dispensers and marketed it for children.

I still enjoy eating pez from time to time...i use to collect them as a child...what is your favorite candy from your younger years?

We were at the store the other day.  Every Christmas you can find those Lifesaver story books....no butter rum though.  Otherwise I'd probably own about ten for the year already.
Those soft peppermint sticks were good to.  Much better than the hard candy ones.

Tootie Frooties (I think thats the spelling!) - wonderful fruit chews!

Dont reckon it will be known in the US (?) - but I bet Missturbation knows them?

The great thing is, after near on 30 years that I missed them (gave up sweets when my brother became diabetic - aint that sweet of me!?), we found some in the supermarket! My littlest UM loves them, so I get to taste one every now and then, when I thought they must have long since been discontinued.

I used to love  candy corn, peeps, and candy necklaces......annnd...the  little hard candy rootbeer barrels.

Any one remember bubbsdaddy's ?  They were an 8 inch long stick of bubble gum just maybe twice the diameter of a pencil.
That was bazooka and gum balls were the only types of bubble gum there was.  So it was a welcome novelty.
