Sorry if this post is stupid. I need some new speakers for my stereo system. The amp is pretty old (hand-me-down) but it's supposed to be really good quality. It's an Onkyo TX-SV303PRO. It has plugs for mains, and surrounds as well as remotes. Right now I have these huge ass JVC's for the mains, but they are starting to buzz, and have Audiovox (indoor/outdoor) for the surrounds that are still pretty good. What I want to do is replace all four that are going to go in my bedroom (main and surrounds) and move the two Audiovox out on my balcony. I think they make really nice quality speakers that you can mount on the walls of ceiling these days, where you don't have to have these huge crates on the floor. This is what I'm looking for. My system doesn't have the ability to do the bass thumper with the tiny speakers ... I'm just looking for some nice quality speakers, that aren't huge. I might be able to live with towers. Obviously, I'm looking for something with a good quality-to-price ratio, and I thought someone here might be able to help. I don't know a lot about systems, but this one pushes 80 watts per channel at 8 ohms with a range from 20hz, to 20,000 hz (whatever the fuck that means). I have the user's manual, so if there are some other stats that would help, let me know. My bedroom is just under 600 square feet. Any advice on what would be a good choice? Thanks in adance.

Try those Bose speakers that are small and can be put up on the walls. The sound is tremendous!

I looked at those online, but I don't think they are the type that work with my system (but I could be wrong). Those have a big box that delivers the bass, and the small speakers are just remotes. I think they are called home theater systems. I don't think my system has any place to hook up that big box. I think (and I'm in no way an expert) what I need is the sort of speakers that have a bass (is that the woofer?), midrange and tweeter all in one speaker.

Based on the description of the project I'd say just about any name brand bookshelf speakers would do, esp if you bought two pair in the $75-100 USD range. Most should be easy to wall mount, the problem will be concealing/running the wires unless you have connections already installed in the walls. Truthfully, you don't need four speakers inside with that kind of setup, two for stereo will suffice. An alternative to that setup would be to use your PC as a stereo or multimedia unit (cd/dvd/mp3 player). All you would need is a solid soundcard capable of being connected to a set of theater speakers in the 5.1 or 7.1 configuration. This could be done decently in the $150-200 range. I have a massive music server setup with so much music on it that I am getting to where I can't remember everything that's on it. Personally, I don't go in for the audiophile stuff as I once used to as I am increasingly sure it's mainly bullshit. The main problem with higher end equipment is that most spaces aren't designed to facilitate that kind of listening system (ala Carnegie Hall) so you are wasting your time except with headphones. I'm still using a mid-level Grados for my headset.

Infinity makes a bookshelf/mount speaker called Primus 160, about $175-200 for a pair. Nice speakers, but a bit large, though you get mounts for wall installation. I have some Pioneers I bought at Circuit City for under $200 that sound very nice, if a bit boomy. And yes, the subwoofer is what gives you almost all of your bass. If you want to splurge a bit, Klipsch makes some tremendous bookshelf speakers for a bit under $300.00

I would get ones rated for more wattage than your system is rated for simply because they tend to go off the maximum rated wattage on speakers, and you'll probably blow them if you have a house party or something. 150 watts would handle your system comfortably and shouldn't have to worry to much about blowing the things.

A buddy of mine had some that lasted many, many years, and gave superb service. When I get new speakers, that's the brand I'll likely go with. A lot of home audio shops have listening rooms where you can compare how different brands sound, maybe check those out.

Yeah, those would work, almost overkill. With those you should be able to turn it to a 100 percent and not blow the things. Maybe your amp will blow out if you ran it full out but those speakers should work fine. I'd look on ebay though for the same thing, but I'm cheap like that. LOL.
