Emperor1956 -> RE: Are prenups needed in a Master / slave relationship? (12/10/2006 1:14:26 PM)

Arpig, your antipathy to prenuptual agreements is romantic, but not practical if you've amassed a couple of million bucks (even Canadian!) or more, and have ideas where you want that money to go in the event love's youthful blossom fades. I don't know Canadian divorce law, but in the good old USA, prenups are used to preserve significant assets coming into a marriage, because the marital rights will otherwise significantly alter the disposition of those assets in the event of divorce or death of the party seeking the prenup. They may not be romantic, but in my experience, they are usually objected to by the person who stands to make the most in a divorce, not by the person who has the significant assets. Besides, without a good prenup and a will, who's gonna take care of your puppy and your kitty? E.
