Wow, Emperor 1956, you really have a lot of pets!

Far too many.  I didn't even list the outdoor birds.  Wife feeds BARF (bones and raw food) to the mammals...we buy a friggin' butcher shop once a week.

I'm gonna put in a plug for Le Chat Elegance Nicole, or for her breed, rather.  If you've never seen a Chartreux, they are amazing cats.  I'm not one for purebred cats, usually, and when my wife fell in love with one of these and said she wanted to fly in a kitten at a ridiculous price (who pays anything for a cat?) I almost choked.  But she is pure class:  a thick velvety pewter-silver coat, and molten gold eyes.  We've had lots of cats, purebred and rescue, and I don't think I've ever seen a prettier one.

Good to know. I didn't used to be a cat fan (I wasn't raised with them). But then, I met my friends' cat who thinks it's a dog. Plus, they are sooo graceful, it seems. And I know they can be affectionate.

I grew up with everything except cats, though: Dogs, birds, fish, hamsters, Gerbils and we actually "adopted" a cat from across the street and sort of provided day-care for it (because we wanted to play with it. It didn't like us much, but loved our catfood).

Our hamsters were interesting. We had three, and since I grew up in a semi-renovated older house that was originally built in 1910, it had hot air registers on the floor with grillwork that a small, furry animal could accidentally slip through.

One night, Pierre (one of the hamsters) escaped from his cage, along with Tiger, and plummetted to his demise via the grillwork in the hot air register (but we didn't know it for a few days - until we smelled them. It was horrible). We were such idiots. I've always felt so guilty about that, even though I was only twelve years old. How stupid! That cage belonged on top of a table, somewhere - not on the floor. But - the floor was actually my dad's idea, not mine.

We had a Mynah bird named Alfie, who used to spit fruit cocktail and raw hamburger (it's diet) at the wall. My mother absolutely hated that bird. We'd been trying to teach Alfie to speak for months.

My dad finally decided to adopt Alfie out, because he drove my mother crazy (she was a neat freak). The day he was being carted out the door to his next home, he finally said: "Hello....Hello"...And my dad looked at Alfie, and said: "Too late, pal. Sorry."

I have a big Tom Cat that I got at the pound in Stratham, N.H.
I moved down here and decided to change his name to "Bubba" as he's now a "Southern" cat.
He likes to eat and if there's no food in his dish early in the morning he'll jump up on the bed and start biting my fingers.
I get him back by taking one of those lazer pointers and making him chase it and crash into the wall in the kitchen on the slippery linoleum.
For a nickname I call him "Fat Boy" and "Shitty Kitty."

PALittleGirl -> RE: Nick Names For Your Pets (Animals) (12/11/2006 7:22:46 AM)

My cat's name is Dreyfuss, he came with that name when I adopted him. Occasionally I go "Hey! Doofus!" and he responds.

My pet rabbit pete is known as poopy to most because he well poops a lot.
Frankie the hamster is often referred to as Ethan as she carries out mission impossible like manouvers in her cage.
Gez the hamster is big balls for obvious reasons.
My daughters hamster and i cant remember its real name is known as big momma cos she has just had 9 babies and the babies are the little ones as we dont know whether we are keeping them yet.

LMAO, popeye. I had a " shitty kitty" too. She was a beautiful white girl with green eyes. I found her pregnant and hit by a car and took her to the Vets, where she and her babies were saved. She had a semi paralyzed rectum and a completely paralyzed tail which had to be amputated. When she had to poop she went to her box to try and it never fully dropped out. < so to speak >  So she got out of the box, wiggled her butt and " shook the poop out ". Then I would have to go pick it up from where ever it dropped.

That is a *terrible* diet for that species.  It is a good idea to do research on the nutritional needs of exotic wildlife before attempting to keep them in captivity.  Asking the kids who work as clerks at the pet store is NOT research.
