I spend last night and all of today baking cookies with a friend. We baked 18 different kinds and discussed many more, Most of them seemed to have specail memories associated with them.

So what is your favorite cookie and does it have a specail memory ?

If I had to pick one it would be sugar cookies.  Mainly because of all of the times when I was young, spent with my mom with icing and sprinkles, and eating the raw cookie dough.     We also made heart shaped sugar cookies for Valentine's Day.

My mom makes a production out of Christmas cookies, trying to make at least one batch of each family member's favorite cookie.

Chocolate chip. I used to make them with my Granny, and dunk them in coffee with my Grandpa. *grins* Probably where I developed my coffee addiction from too...

Black and white cookies (think Italian bakery) and the cream cheese foldover ones with fruit filling.  I actually don't have a name for them, but they're fantastic with powdered sugar sprinkled on top.

This is hard.

I do love candy cane cookies, though after I made them last year, I was finding pieces of crushed candy cane all over the kitchen for a month.  Behind books, stuck in the curtains, on top of the fridge...you get the idea.

I also like pecan sables and spritz and molasses cookies and Mexican tea cakes and...oh, drat, I just like everything!

I was the youngest of 3 siblings...and 8 year's younger than the one closest in age to me.
So, we didn't have Christmas cookies unless I baked them.  There is something to be said for not having to do all of the work to enjoy a cookie.

Though anymore my favorite sort of cookie to make around the holidays is sugar.  It is the one time of year I break out the rolling pins and do it all up.

Favorite to consume is simply put, chocolate chip in most any form.

I just love making homemade sugar cookies for the holidays. But I love baking period, just don't get to do it much anymore. When I had kids living at home I had hordes of kids in and out of the house, always hungry. So, I baked alot.

Needed, gluten free cookie recipe. Can have as many egg/dairy/whatevers, but no gluten.

Any ideas?

After reading all the post so far, I just feel like the cookie monster.  Too many favorites to choose from of past memories and present.  I do love those Italian cookies, they just fall apart in the mouth, but those pecan of nearly any kind, yum and any of the butter cookies and oh, oh molasses and and I could go on and on.  Me want cookies now

Springform cookies for me... lots of eggs & milk & fat (they're deep fried). Can't eat too many of them, but they are soooooooooooooo worth it!

Pecan puffs... a kind of a dry cookie of just butter, flour, vanilla & ground pecans rolled into small balls and baked, then rolled in powdered sugar.  Yum, yum!
