My primary partner and I went to a Cavalia performance, and even with poor seating, the spectacle moved me to passionate tears for over an hour. I am seldom moved to open emotion, but a well turned out horse will do it every time, and to see these creatures dancing at liberty with their human partners, to be ridden without saddle, rein, or bit was literally watching childhood revived for me. I had a horse as a troubled adolescent, and often rode her bareback and at liberty. I had her for three joyous years, and I suffered horribly when she was sold without warning by my grandfather right around the time of my grandmother's death from cancer. To this day I still have nightmares about the event of going out to the pasture expecting to ride, and finding that her, and everything associated with her, had vanished. The Cavalia performance moved me to revisit those days, and even to revist the pain of her loss, as well...so needless to say I was weeping openly by its end. All the same, should they come again, I will once more pay the significant price to see them once more. All of the emotion is worth it.
