I've mentioned this before:
http://www.collarchat.com/m_662046/mpage_3/key_/tm.htm#665080

But I think I was not believed and/or I was also seen as being an extremist in my response. And yet:

"'Convert or die' game divides Christians"
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2006/12/12/MNG8TMU1KQ1.DTL

Liberal and progressive Christian groups say a new computer game in which players must either convert or kill non-Christians is the wrong gift to give this holiday season and that Wal-Mart, a major video game retailer, should yank it off its shelves.

The Campaign to Defend the Constitution and the Christian Alliance for Progress, two online political groups, plan to demand today that Wal-Mart dump Left Behind: Eternal Forces, a PC game inspired by a series of Christian novels that are hugely popular, especially with teens.

---

Ah, see - it really *IS* cultural warfare.

I repeat:
I do not practice tolerance such that it favors the intolerant. I treat them as they should be treated - with a mind to destroying them and every bullshit intolerant thing they stand for.

It says its the wrong time of year to give a gift like this in the article. In my opinion i think anytime of year would be wrong for something like that. Im not religious but i dont like the idea of this game at all.

........reading through the article, which goes on to mention that killing Muslims is also a part of the game, i think this game ought to have greater exposure not less. This is not because it is a good game, or because i agree with the developers vision.......rather it seems to me that it is an honest game. Honestly portraying an attitude prevalent in some parts of the states. Put these things into the public domain, let people see the subconcious agendas.......

The article says you lose points for killing people, there is no blood, yet one of the guys leading the charge calls it, "an incredibly violent video game."  Sounds like he's never played 'Doom.'

In the 80's, we got Stryper as an alternative to the heavy metal devil music.  They sucked.  Now we get a game where you make points by praying to counter a good slaughterfest.

Feel sorry for anybody who opens this piece of crap on Christmas and let it go.

If you want something to be paranoid about, think about the fact that something called the Campaign to Defend the Constitution seems to be trying deprive a minority of their rights to free exercise of their religious beliefs.

"The Campaign to Defend the Constitution and the Christian Alliance for Progress, two online political groups, plan to demand today that Wal-Mart dump Left Behind: Eternal Forces, a PC game inspired by a series of Christian novels that are hugely popular, especially with teens. "

So it really has gotten to this point. Slavery is freedom, ignorance is bliss, etc., like Orwell wrote.

So it is. "We are defending the Constitution by imposing our will on others". The Constitution is supposed to be the "bible" of the government, and true to form they make it seem to say whatever they want. As a result we got a pres that thinks god wants him to conquer Iraq. This kind of shit irks me. The same type of MFs got USC2257 through and fucked every porn site operator in the US up the ass.

I don't like reading shit like this, but in no way am I saying don't post it. First of all post whatever you want, but I think it was said pretty well in a letter to the American Free Press. The writer said that some people saw the content of AFP as too much doom and gloom. His response was pretty much that if there is a tornado approaching, while he might not be able to do anything about it, it is better to know about it and prepare.

On the LMU forum there is a thread started by Thomas Hilmer, the new owner of La Centure De Chaste, or something close to that, which is one of the few chastity belt makers in the US. He got it from William Jones and lately announced that he was going to have pics of people wearing his devices on the site, he thought it should be OK as long as the faces couldn't be seen. That is not how it is. The full text of USC2257 is available all over. If you can't find it, drop over to LMU and there are links in the forum, several times.

A few of the members there are webmasters, business owners who have websites and as much as they might like handcuffs, when the cops use them they are no fun at all.

OK, I can see where it is going, in 08 we are going to elect a bunch of filthy democrats who will steal more than the republicans. They might well be willing to dismanle USC2257 citing thatr it is indeed unConstitutional, and actually contrary to extant privacy laws, but in reality they will do it to get your vote. To get that second term. When they know they can't run again that is when they do their worst shit. They have nothing to lose.

Then I am very sure that eight years of dems will be the impetus to make the people vote in another republican.

When can we get some people in there who can READ. (sorry for yelling, but...) READ, READ EVERY WORD IN EACH LINE. DO NOT READ BETWEEN THE LINES, THAT IS NOT WHERE THEIR WORDS ARE, THAT IS WHERE YOUR WORDS ARE.

That applies to the Bible, the Constitution, and to people with brains, every contract or agreement. What is stated is stated, your interpretation is meaningless, unless you are a crooked or misled judge. Oh yeah, the federal hudges need to be prioritized. When Sandra Day O'Conner says that her decision will be more based on international laws and precepts, rather than US law, she should have been executed as a traitor at dawn. Period.

If we The People want they laws of other countries we will move there. Also I will not live in a country where the Citizens are not allowed to have guns,

Power corrupts. I don't even need to say the last half of that.

Most of the very intense Christians I know are always trying to get people to comvert so that they can be saved when they die.

I still think the game is a bad idea, however, many people don't seem to mind it when it's just regular people killing other people.  Once you attach labels to the characters, it becomes an issue.  Either we worry about violence in video games all of the time, or we should stop complaining about it.

To me the most disturbing thing about this thread is most people responding seem to be more offended by the religious aspect of the game ( even though it is far removed from  christian dogma)than of the killing aspect, quite twisted indeed!

I'm not sure who these intense Christians are, but the basic premise is that you, yourself have to accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior to get into heaven. Period. Being " saved " is something one would do or have occur before death, not after. So, I think they have their info wrong. No extra credit points are awarded for converts.

I still think the game is a bad idea, however, many people don't seem to mind it when it's just regular people killing other people.  Once you attach labels to the characters, it becomes an issue.  Either we worry about violence in video games all of the time, or we should stop complaining about it.

Agreed here. This game offends me as a Christian. All blood and guts, kill em and mame em games offend me as a human being. If one supports *other * kill em video games, then this one * shouldn't* be a bother at all. If one supports killing and maming games as a leisurely passtime, then this one is just another one of the same thing they accept as good wholesome fun.

Well, the sticky part is not the fantasy element, it is the intolerance.

I don't play video games hardly at all so most of this is observations from afar but I would hope that players of first person "shooter" games recognize that just because you can go around killing monsters and demons in some fantasy dungeon setting like "Doom" doesn't mean that you can do the same in real life. Of course, the less fantasy based the scenario the more worrying it is that it crosses over into how a person will then view the world around him. For example, in the case of a military first shooter game one hopes that the player doesn't leave the game and then start viewing the people in the real world around him as series of possible targets. In my view people are able to distinguish fantasy from reality in these cases, even if some examples would seem to blur the line more than others.

Now while any game is a fantasy of a kind, some games seem predicated on pointedly realistic scenarios (e.g. the aforementioned military shooter) or on real world assumptions and beliefs. A game predicated on one religious group effectively praying for and then possibly preying upon another group is in egregiously poor taste. What about a game where the cowboys attack the indians? Or how about white supremacists hunting down black people? Maybe I am so poorly informed that I don't realize that such games already exist as player created mods.

I wouldn't personally ban such games as I generally oppose censorship of any kind. What I would prefer to encourage is a situation where game makers wouldn't market such a game, or that even if they did consumers would refuse to purchase it.

I'm not into shutting down intolerant speech or expression to the point of making such things criminal acts, I am more interested in the cultural rejection of such notions. I suppose that it's sometimes good to have these things come up so that they can be discussed and set aside anew as ideas that we as a people generally oppose.

Mind you. I'd quite like a game where I get points by shooting evangelicals.
