greeetings to all

i was watching a docudrama of young women in indosenia and it was a shock to see how poor they were but one more shock was how angry these women were many weathly americans go there for the women, these women have not say as to what many one man can do sexual to them. one girl was punch in the face and she said something that shock me. she stated they may give me a disease but when i do die i will take one or two with me. they are in angry and are not shame that they are force to do this, they need to feed their family. what is anyone thought on this. they are giving the aids to the men and the men come back here to wives and girlfriend and or slave submissive. it is cruel trick on the men, i ask this here because this is where most of the men are. i would like if anyone would answer what do you think of this they are really nothing more the slaves in the country. at the risk of so many things i am sure the males here are good to they slaves but it is something i wish someone could give me an answer as to what you think of the one girl statement

thanks you for your relpies

No matter how many wrongs, they do not make a right.

It is wrong that these women are forced to do this.
It is wrong for men to buy and sell women in this way.
It is wrong for anyone who knows they are infected, to deliberately pass that on to someone else.

Such scenarios are the main reason for legalisation, via licensing of prostitution which not only places the women in control of what they do and makes them the prime beneficiary, but also provides for health screening and medical care for them. Such a process would also have to include the clients showing up with appropriate verification that they are not an infectious risk.

Having said that, revenge is a somewhat natural motivation and part of the way the world turns. But revenge is only viable as an option when exercised against those who committed the first dishonour, in whatever series of dishonours which follows from it. In most cases like this, it is the men who traffic and/or force women into this activity, by whatever means - and that could also include employers and governments who for socio-cultural reasons, deny these women any means of making a reasonable living otherwise.

So, no I do not think it fair that these women knowingly infect the clients as revenge. Wrong target entirely. But then the whole thing is unfair.

Only when we throw off the cultural notions of a certain religion from the desert, will we be able to move forward on matters like prostitution and sexuality in general, as well as with a whole host of other ills in our societies.

Men have a choice, take the risk when they pay to be with these desperate women, young girls.
I lived in Zimbabwe where AIDS is pandemic.  The wives loose in the end for they are truly the innocent victoms as are the children.
I know the whole circular rotation all too well and it is a devastatingly horrid way of life.  But poeple do waht they think they have to do.
Is it wrong or right?  We have our morals, ethics and values...others have theirs.
It is the innocent children taht my heart goes out to.

SusanofO -> RE: revenge of women who are force to be taken with out consent (12/14/2006 5:22:25 AM)

I agree with Lady Ellen.
And also amlonging (although I do then to see the women as more "moral" than the men in this instance, if either of them are being (what I'd consider) "moral"....) .

I think the men are wrong because there are so many other options for getting this "need" fulfilled, probably. Some might be more expensive than using Indonesian sex slaves, but thats "life in the big city" and just the "way the cookie crumbles" (my opinion).

Why can't they just "suffer" and fly to Amsterdam, instead? This kind of thing is "legal" there...no doubt Las Vegas has some Asian "sex slave" service going (that's really just legalized prostitution in disguise). So, if the thrill is having an actual "sex slave" - I say they've probably got other outlets they could use (like-psuedo-sex-slaves), rather than traumatizing (maybe for life) someone who is in basically in an almost non-consensual situation. Then again, some people just simply don't care, I guess.

He enters, dips His lid to all;

Well stated Mons.   We have little concept of what it's like to 'do anything' to get bread on our tables plus having a low life expectancy anyway.   Both these things we 'take for granted' in the so called civilized countries.   There is little doubt that the Americans/Europeans the woman despises are seen by the woman to be 'cashed up' without any civilized moral conscience.

Travellers are warned about AIDs etc and so if anyone having sex in the areas recieves AIDS then so bit it- they deserve it!

Of course their innocent partners do not deserve getting a terminal illness but that comes down to their partner being unscrupulous in the first place.

AIDS is a massive problem in Africa, slavic areas and parts of Asia- all areas where to have bread on your table and a long life expectancy- both luxeries.

I was shown this link recently- food for thought

Hi mons,
Actually statistics show it is extremely hard for an aids infected woman to in intercourse to pass that disease to men.
Last time I went to get tested at the health department the statistics posted on the walls there said for every 100 men that sleep with a woman that has aids two of them may contract it.
The reverse is if 100 women sleep with a man with aids 80% of them will contract it.
Vaginal intercourse, at least from what I saw at the health department, is not as conducive of spreading the disease to men as some think.

It is very sad the women in Indonesia are exploited sexually, in Africa it's also known that brutal rape and aids is a huge epidemic there too.

I think revenge only compounds the abuse and is not the answer.
If you stoop down to the level of the abuser than you're no better than they are.
Gandhi said something along the lines of No person can control you, or your emotional state unless you give them permission to do so.
I wish these people who are so repressed could grasp some of that concept.
I know it's kept me free from more harm perpetuating after something horrible was done to me and from emotional upheaval at some other persons hand.
When I have had people do really bad things to injure me emotionally I remember the issues are not my choice, not my actions, and I am not responsible for any persons behavior but my own.
I wish more people who have been victimized can find a way to leave the abuse and all the negativity it creates on the side of the attacker instead of becoming an attacker or abuser themselves.
Riotous indignation and vigilanti (sp?) approaches in my opinion benefits no one.
If you can find a way to not allow their infractions to cause you to commit those same types of infractions by your own hand then you indeed are not a victim, but a survivor who keeps their dignity intact.
Basically I really don't understand why you consider what this woman said as revenge as I'm pretty sure these men know these women have aids to start with and choose to assault them any way.
Karma on the other hand, and the final judgment day is where these tortured souls will see their abusers get what's coming to them.
The energy you create is the environment you live in, they all have to live with themselves.
Sincerely,
suzanne

* edited as spell check and I can't decide how to spell vigilanti

Bit off track, but AIDS related.

Anyone heard of the trial theyre making where they are comparing infection rates with circumcised and uncircumcised men in Africa? The results were that circumcision makes for a 50% reduction in the chance of infection. They had to stop the test because it was felt unethical to continue without offering circumcision to the guys in the control group, because the findings are so significant. It was reported on BBC Radio 4 news the other night.

The theory runs that the foreskin contains cells particularly vulnerable to infection with HIV; by removing it, the vulnerability is reduced.

Another reason for circumcision boys!

mons, you already know my opinion: It's dead wrong.

Give someone in Darfur, (in Sudan, Africa) a Christmas present - make a donation to the link below.

Rapes and murders of innocent women happen by the hundreds there every day, thanks to the genocide now happening in Sudan (and elsewhere nearby). Others are forced into prostitution - it's practically "normal" over there now, it happens so often.

There is a big Sudanese refugee population in my hometown - I've heard stories that would curl your hair.
Sometimes after they've raped the women, they set them on fire (they are still alive when this happens, mind you).

Someone has to Do Something!!

Makes me count my blessings - every day!

I don't get the connection there, except in maybe areas where non-surgical preventions are refused.

I think that women like myself in the US would have a very hard time wrapping our heads around the daily existance of most women on the planet.  I'm just glad that someone is talking about stuff like that every now and then.

Having worked in the anti slavery movement for 15 years, having met former slaves, including Indonesian women who were in similar situations to the one you mentioned in the OP, I would disagree with Lady Ellen that religion or anything other than economics has anything to do with the enslavement of people throughout the modern world.

As for this young woman, while I certainly do not support or condon what she is saying and doing, I do understand * why* she feels the way she does. Why wouldn't she resent these men ? She was born into poverty, sold, stolen or forced into prostitution with no possible means of getting out. The government does nothing and will do nothing as long as this continues to bring cash money into their country. Her life is doomed with or without STDs. Any hope for a future or normal life was taken form her long ago. When hope is lost, there is little left in life.
And the entire situation begs the question...... what responsiblity does the purchaser of her services have? If American, British, European/ and any other men did not go out in search of these women, knowing the situation they are in, there would be no market for her. She also knows this on some level and therefore, resents or wishes harm on these customers.
There is a wonderful book that examines modern day slavery, including the sex trade in Indonesia. Link below, also a link about slavery in Indonesia.
