I never said I defended it, I was just talking about it, and in my case its who I am so theres no need for slinging righteousness around at me.

I used to agree with the death penalty until I considered, what if it was my loved one, son or brother.......that was wrongfully accused? What if I knew without a shadow of a doubt that they did not commit the crime? It gave me a whole different perspective.

Unfortunately In the past few months I have come across things that have occurred that i thoguht that people i knew and loved were not capable...and yet not only did they do them...but they confessed ot it...so wellI do not know anything other than my own actions and the actions those that were actually in my presence at the time of the accused crime.  I could nto say without a doubt that my daughter, son, mother, sister, grandmother or exhubby did anything unless they were actually in my presence at the time.  Are things uncharacteristic of their behavior?  yes i coudl say that...but to say 100% that they are not part of the situation? NO.....and well I am of teh old school of being guilty by association...if you are with a bunch of peopel that commit an armed robery...in my humble opinion then they all are guilty as the one person that is holdign the gun!

as far as being pro or con as far as the death penalty goes...the one thing i knwo for sure is that we have far too many homeless children that are in need...and we are providing 33 hots and a cot...free medical care....and color tv for each of these criminals....somethign isnt right

The death penalty is barbaric and should have no place in a society that considers itself civilised. A botched execution in a state internationally renowned for questionable convictions. About sums up the whole place and procedure.

What about puting the criminal in chains giving it cattle prod and base ball bat sessions on a daily basis? The jail cell will have no AC nor Heat. Water will come out of a rusty faucet in drips and a small meal will be given once a day. If we aren't going to exicute anyone, then atleast let's not make prison a five star hotel. After all, prison should be a place that makes you wish you were dead. When that happens, then I'll consider to oppose the death penalty.

Having been a rehab therapist in institutions, I think it's a waste of humanity to have people sitting around in state hospitals and jail cells waiting around for heaven knows what, whether it's release, life imprisonment, or the death penalty.  Let's let them work, in their community behind bars, pay them for it, and have them pay for their treatment.  It used to be done historically in the state hospital systems and then the unions did away with it. Let's bring back vocational and other rehabilitation, rather then have these people sit around on death row for 20 years while we all pay for their lawyers.  Seems like such a waste of human potential.  Murder is often a one time violent, passionate act of insanity.  Want to leave them behind bars?  Fine.  But make them pay for their food and lodging and this will save the taxpayers money and grief and give the incarcerated pride and accountablity.

I couldn't agree more....have them not only study college behind bars, but also have them work hard for the state....they can repair several highways, town roads, expand the amtrak system, and build new nice Federal buildings....I'm all for it! Crafts can be nice with those with artistic leanings.

While it maybe true that the death penalty is cruel and barbaric it doesnt follow that it should not be used.
I think there is a clause in the US constitution that says cruel and unusual punishment may not be inflicted. Well the death penalty is not unusual and the victim could be given hallucinatory drugs to cheer him up a bit so he wouldnt think it is was cruel.

Clearly there exist different degrees of homicide and in my opinion not all deserve the death penalty.

The only argument against it is the possibilty of wrongful conviction.
