Ok, this might sound like an odd question/post.  I've used this particular font and style on message boards for a long time (bold, georgia font.)  Most people here don't change their fonts, using the default Times New Roman, unbolded.  Am I breaking some sort of unwritten rule here?  Is anyone bothered by it?

I personally don't like it or use it, but it is really easy on the eyes. It is a good choice for a "long lines paragraph" writting. It is a writing font.

I block people who use fonts that I find offensive or difficult to read. Your heavy font might be problematical for me when in lengthy posts.
 
It often takes a long time before I decide to block someone for the font they use. My irritation usually builds up slowly until a thresshold is reached.

There you have it girls and boys. The better part of prudence mandates we pick our fonts carefully in future. I know I shall, not wishing to be blocked by such illustrious readers.
I think we should all heed and watch our sixes and fonts henceforth. He has spoken.

Prudence is all well and good, but I think the real problem here could more easily be solved if he simply increased his fiber intake.

I'm always a tad irked by anyone who changes their font- the more they change it from 'standard' the more irked I get- so bright pink bold centered font gets an irk level or 7 while yours only gets an irk level of 2.

But you aren't breaking a rule- if the mods didn't want us to be able to change the fonts, we'd not have those tools available.  So in the same way that I get irked at people who begin eating at the table before everyone is served, I get irked at font changes on forums.  No real rules are being broken and it's nothing worth saying anything over (unless it's so horrendous it makes it illegible), but the irk is there nonetheless.

If you notice, I remove all non-standard formatting from posts when I make them or reply to them.

On ANY text based forum, it's generally wisest to stick to the standard for ease of viewing and communication- it's easier on the eyes, less information to interpret and usually takes up less space on the screen also.

I have no problems with most people's modifications to their font. I would do it, but Comic Sans (my personal favorite font) isn't available.

Thanks for the replies.  I didn't want to taint the control, so I didn't mention that I liked it when peopled varied their fonts (so long as it wasn't hard to read) because the different style of text made certain people's words sound distinctive - i.e. the way someone's real life voice is unique.  The forum I started with commonly had slaves posting with a tasteful blue or dark pink, while men would commonly use black, dark red, or dark blue.

It was a common joke in the AOL chatrooms I used to frequent about when people used "domly font" and sometimes subs would even get insults thrown by the clueless dorks who said their font wasn't "submissive enough."

I agree, in a text based medium, font can be a great way to express personality through formatting.  But the more the item at hand is based on the discussion and not the personality, the better I find to leave those trappings behind.

In other words, if we're having a silly talk about favorite foots, font differences aren't a big deal.  If we're having a furious debate on the validity of a dom forcing a slave to have an abortion, font differences become intrusive and distracting.

I'm not particularly irritated with either of your fonts or text colors. The ones that drive me crazy are the ones that are hard to read: they are too small or large or are presented in a color that calls for a wince and a squint while reading. I also can't stand it when people change the font and/or style several times in one message. As long as it's easy on the eyes, then I'm good.

I used to skip Voltairs posts completely becuase I found the font too small and too dark. Now I sometimes slow way down and read some of them. I also skip some of the brightly colored posts. It might be my age. 47. Ive been using a computer for ten years now and I really notice the strain.

Too small?  I was worried it was too big, dark, and heavy.

Eeeww.  That one hurts my eyes.  Go back to your original one.  At least I could read that.  I'm in denial about needing glasses and some of these are so hard to read.  Don't use pastel!  Ever!

Your original font is excellent! I'm 68 and really starting to feel the strain, though the default font is ok for me.

My biggest hate are all the people who use similar colors in the 2 boxes on the profile... a dark font on a dark background will get a "pass" from me every time as well as pastels
