I also enjoy travelling, so back in the day I was the one who did it. 600 miles can be a very reasonable air fare (less than 100 bucks if I recall) or split between you both, it's less than five hours by car, meet somewhere in the middle for the day, use seperate hotels (to start off with) and head back the next evening.
What you might want to wrap your head around is what comes after. Most folks aren't in a position to make such trips 20 or 30 times over the course of six months. Do put some thought into if either of you are willing or able to relocate, and under what conditions should this first meeting be successful.
