Happy Solistace to you too Zensee, and to all.
Also happy festival of the Odinists, who would be celebrating sort of an ending, which of course heralds the coming of the new. You would find that in the northern hemisphere.
Kinda makes me wonder just how many more "paganistic" dieties there are. I imagine alot of the earlier societies developed deities based on the seasons. Some may have understood that we are on a planet, others didn't and others didn't care. The Odinists thought of the Earth as their god. For others it was the Sun, again logical due to the fact that their survival depended on these things.
Their understanding of astronomy might have been lacking, but I believe, and have for years, that people in the past were smarter than we are today. Their thought processes weren't even as developed as ours and yet they solved problems without technology. So even if you really don't want to hold the Earth and the Sun in high regard, just try to live without them.
Simpler, yes. Prone to fall for deities here and there, yes. Completely illogical ? No. I think Sun and Earth worshippers had some kind of grasp on reality, something I am not so sure is quite as pervalent today. Worship of an object, such as a Buddah or a Totem Pole is much more primitive.
I'll get the name of it, but does anyone have any more ? Customs, rituals whatever that were celebrated in earlier cultures ? I mean around now in the year. I mean rites, rituals, holidays or whatever that are based on agriculture/environment. Come up with a few and I bet a bit of research will reveal that most of them are from the northern hemishere.
