SirJscanX -> Local Paper covers Dominatrix vs. Officer case (12/21/2006 12:10:54 PM)

For the past week or so, the local county newspaper, The Journal News, has been featuring articles regarding the ongoing story in which a local dominatrix (Gina Pane) and a police officer (Officer Erik Ward) have squared off in a court battle.

For the current articles, see:
www.thejournalnews.com  and search "dominatrix."

Some quotes: (from article dated 12-19-2006)
"GREENBURGH - A dominatrix who accused a police officer of offering help with a drug charge in exchange for kinky sex play never mentioned to law enforcement officials that she had called a drug-dealing suspect as part of her role as a police informant..."

Most telling  to me is the following (quoted from the same article): "Commissioner Francis Sheehan questioned Ward about the computer missing from his apartment when police executed a search warrant at the end of January. Ward insisted he was surprised to learn of the search and said he had thrown out the computer a week earlier because it had broken. Police officials had wanted to see if Ward had frequented sadomasochistic Web sites - Pane's in particular - in the past, since he had denied any interest in that topic.

I believe this search was performed 10 days after the incident!

Today's (12-21-2006) article leads with:
"The lawyer for the town police officer embroiled in a dominatrix scandal urged Town Board members last night not to let the woman's unsubstantiated claims "destroy the career of an honest, hardworking cop."

At least one article in the series has appeared on the front page of the printed version of the newspaper.

A difficult matter to deal with -- a "he said, she said" situation, where the "he" is a police officer, and the "she" is a dominatrix. Whom is the court going to believe?

The "Journal" has moved the series of articles off to their archives. If you put "dominatrix" in as the search keyword in their archives search, you'll find all of the articles. Unfortunately, the abstract for each article is just about useless; one must buy the archived article(s) in order to see anything substantial.

Would be interested in knowing how this finally played out, in the press.

Thank you for the update. Disappointed that she did not get the outcome deserved, for being used the way she was. Yet she did it for all the wrong reasons, trying to get off of the marijuana charge. So perhaps some form of justice was served.

Thank you for the follow-up, Richard. I didn't know where to find those articles in any easy way once the newspaper tucked them away in their archives! This topic makes much more sense when the subject matter can be found! :-)

Nicely done.

cops generally refer to it as testilying, you get perjury charges, they get a pension
