SadoCasinero -> Can we be sure of recipients age when sending pics? (12/22/2006 4:25:32 AM)

Hi folks, just had a thought..been corresponding with a person I met here; she asks for pics that illustrate the things I'm interested in, and since I dont take photos, she's happy if I use public domain pics that correspond to what I would do/want etc (i.e promo website pics, nothing from inside member's areas). (Examples are spanking pics, bondage, corsetry, etc). Some fairly severe examples, but nothing illegal.

Trouble is, I got to wondering "what if she really isn't in her twenties; what if I'm sending questionable pics to a minor, even tho she could find them herself by surfing".  I dont remember any age verification when I put my profile up, just an "are you of legal age?" button.

She's more  interested in pics rather than discussion, so not sure what best to do.

Btw, if the lady in question recognizes herself in this, no disrespect intended, just wanting to see what folks think, and are we ok.

She's more  interested in pics rather than discussion,
That would probably unsettle me but not for an under age reason.
I guess you have to go with your instincts but if you are doubtful of her age at all i'd say don't send them.

Sounds more like a man who hasn't figured out how to surf the Web on his own.....

It is a little unsettling, which I think is why I ended up on that train of thought.  My sense is that she's a very visual person who is just looking for ideas to explore, but why not go surfing herself, unless she's trying to hang the ideas on an image of a dom.

If I had any doubt at all, I wouldn't send them - in my book, its better safe than sorry

I read recently that alt.com offers age verification with their profiles via an independent site at:

http://confirmid.com/

Perhaps that might ease your mind?

Cool - thx Caitriona, I'll check that out.

cjklyn -> RE: Can we be sure of recipients age when sending pics? (12/22/2006 5:10:03 AM)

If all you are doing is sharing public domain pics, why not point "her" to the same sites youre getting the pics from.. My suspicion though is your actually chatting to a pic collecting bloke!

SadoCasinero -> RE: Can we be sure of recipients age when sending pics? (12/22/2006 5:22:03 AM)

Yeah, I did that (suggested she go look for herself), and (arrrrrrrrggghh, "she"??? oh boy...) wasnt interested..which is why I thought that maybe she was associating the pics with an idea of a dom to create a fantasy to explore and savor as a learning experience.

I'd better go and ask some direct questions of the person, methinks, instead of assuming the most appealing scenario.

GrizzlyBear -> RE: Can we be sure of recipients age when sending pics? (12/22/2006 6:16:11 AM)

No, not beyond doubt, over the Net.   Even a picture of a DL or birth certificate can be easily faked.  You can't examine the ID over the Net.  You pays your money and you takes your chances.

Howver intent should figure into such a thing, should it come to involving the police.  If she always says in the chat that she is of a legal age, and you are given no reason to believe otherwise, its going to be much more difficult to paint you as a predator or child molester for the jury.

Bets are off should you ever actually meet.  Insist on a valid state-issued photo ID card at the least.  If she looks a bit on the young side, photograph the ID yourself, to retain as proof that you examined it.  And keep copies of all your correspondence and chats.

The standards of proof of age that bars use to sell alcohol, or porn photographers have to use to satisfy Federal laws, should be good enough.  Know the laws for age requirements in your state.  If the age of consent is less than 18, go with a minimum of 18 just to be sure.

A man was recently convicted of some sort of abuse for his involvement with a 15 or16-year old girl in Washington state, I believe it was.  He claimed she showed him a birth certificate over a web cam that said she was 19, he did not save the image and she conveniently failed to bring it along when she ran away from home to be his sex slave. He was found not guilty of statutory rape and kidnapping.  It was taking and posting the nude pictures of her that he was ultimately convicted of.

I think I'm rapidly developing a sense of caution that I didnt have before. Thanks for the "cold light of day" post, Grizzly..really lays it on the line. I have no interest in playing with folk much under 30 unless I know them well from a social setting first, but in a purely online environment its too easy to go along with an odd-seeming situation.

I'm not sure why it would.  Confirm ID is not an independant site, it's owned by the same folks that own Alt.com and all the other Adult Friend Finder sites.  It's trivial to alter a photocopied drivers license and sent it in to them for 'validation.'  There's a reason why there aren't any non-AFF sites listed on their partner page.  It's useless.

MissyRane -> RE: Can we be sure of recipients age when sending pics? (12/22/2006 7:21:46 AM)

no matter what age restriction a site has..it's always easy for a minor who's bored or curious or blablabla to join these sites so no you can't verify it :) except for a drivers license I guess? But then I'm sure you can fake a driving license pic with photoshop like everything else if you really really want to cheat on ppl[8|]

If the "lady" is more interested in photo's I would be questioning wether or not it is a "lady" at all. Sounds like alot of the stuff I have gotten from guys pretending to be female.

ConfirmID is only used to verify information provided to ALT and is not of value to the general public.  The woman in question would need to create a profile on ALT and then use ConfirmID to have the information in her profile on ALT verified.  Since the ALT profile is free, and the cost of ConfirmID is minimal, this would not seem unreasonable.  They check and compare the D/L number & info on it with the info from the State Bureaus.  Altering an existing D/L would not pass muster with them if they've done their job properly.  I think you'd have nothing to lose by at least asking her to do it if you were at all concerned about her sincerity and the accuracy of her profile here.  If she refused, that alone might tell you what you needed to know. [8|]

SadoCasinero,

The best advice I can is to follow your gutt instinct. If it feels like something simply isn't right then I would not send anymore picutures because the reality is unless you meet face to face there is no way to truly verify age online.

Pardon my ignorance, but how would you even verify their age face-to-face?  One could still be shown a fake ID of which you'd later have no proof! [:-]

Although you can obtain a fake ID it is much easier to verify if an ID is legit or not in person. Plus in person you can see physical traits/charastics, behavior, verbal language, ect. although they do not define age they can raise red flags.

Again if something doesn't feel right even in person go with your gutt instict.

Are you sure about that?  Nothing on their site says that they verify the ID they receive with any other source.  If they did, it would be a huge selling point and can only imagine they would be shouting that fact from their digital rooftops.  Since they're not, I'm betting there is no such check and comparison.  If you have evidence to the contrary, I'd love to hear it.

cjklyn -> RE: Can we be sure of recipients age when sending pics? (12/22/2006 9:56:36 AM)

According to the Confirm id site, they "verify" your age, gender, height, weight, and location (city/state or province/country) by checking what you tell them against a copy of your driving license. It also appears to be part of the friendfinder organisation, has the same address as alt.com etc....so seems to me like a nice little earner that has little use outside of the friendfinder range of companies.
