Oh great and all knowing one thank you for bestowing your vast amount of knowledge on us poor undeserving folks. I don't know how I would have avoided the scammers and users without your great advice!

That's one perspective.

Mine would be:

1)  Don't consider meeting him unless he divulges everything about his life, including his full name, home address and phone number.  Also meeting in a public place and plan to spend a couple hours there.

2)  Never let him buy you a plane ticket ... a dom with the brains of a peanut would understand why.  If you're problem is you lack financial security, he can come to you - be around your family and your friends - put himself out there.

3)  Accept a collar in the same spirit as you would accept an wedding ring - that's how much you need to know about him.

3) Any dom who expects a sensuous, fun-filled, wild trip back to his domain should be put on your "least wanted" list, as should the OP.

Ya know...I can't speak to the OP's all knowingness but, just yesterday, my remodeling contractor, a truly nice fellow, probably 65 years old called me and asked me if he could borrow one of my Hispanic speaking guys because he'd gotten a "call from some guy in Spain who honest to God...picked my name out of 25,000 other names...and all I have to do is send some basic info (I checked...it wasn't anything unusual), answer a few questions...and I could be in the top 5 running for a million bucks!!!".

Now honestly, this guy is a fairly intelligent guy.  He's no brain surgeon, but he reads the papers and I did mention..."ya know...this sounds like a bit of a con"...to which he said..."Nope...they don't want anything from me, all I have to do is answer a few simple questions".

Didn't sound quite right...and I only deferred because surely this guy who I've known for over 5 years...couldn't be swept up this easily.

So I asked him "you mean, they literally don't want anything but your name, address and phone number?"....

"Well" he said..."they want 10% of the total for taxes and such"..."WHOAHHHHH Hold on here....you don't see a catch here?"...."well" he cautioned...clearly to assuage my obvious disdain for such a clear con man...who I was obviously wrong about "they don't ask for anything until I have the check in hand".

Allow me to say, I'm stunned that this dude was so easily taken in...and whether the OP's concerns seemed obvious...it would appear even those you're certain would know better...

(May not).

ROFLMAO

I actually got a check in the mail for $88,000.   Don't know exactly how I got it, but it was made out in my company name.   I notified the state DA who also notified the police in Canada (where the check came from).   So even when you have the check in hand doesn't mean it isn't a scam

LTRsubNW -> RE: scammers asking for Money / simple rules to go by (12/27/2006 6:56:18 PM)

Okay...I actually thought I'd never post to this again, but....

My contractor (see above) called me today (I still owed him 2 grand, not due until late January).  He was Jonesing for that 2 grand.  "Hey...can I get that money early?"....I said "why the urgency?" he said "because these people need $3,950.00 (for some bullshit thing I really didn't want to try to understand)...and I have to wire it, bank to bank...perfectly understandable...."

And I'm thinking..."this is fucking insane...but hey...it's his money..."  (And I told him he was about to get fucked).

So I wrote him a check (after, of course explaining "you're about to get majorly boned here bud").  It's his money...I couldn't exactly say no.

The guy is 62 years old.  He's not stoooopit (well, maybe the jury's actually out on that).  He's been doing my remodeling shit on various properties for about 5 years now.  He does great work!

I actually called the FBI locally (got a recording...hopefully they return my call).

I'm freaked out about this...not only because this is real money to this dude (he's a solo kind of contractor...does everything himself...probably made about 30 grand last year...4 grand is real money to this guy), but because this guy is about to get the major bone!!!!

WTF??? Over????

Why in the freaking world would anyone fall for this shit?????

(GAWWWWD I feel bad for this dude).

LTR do not feel sorry for people who're stupid enough to be suckered when they've been warned. and should clearly know better, in some cases.

If I get an address, I send monopoly money. If I'm asked for a card number, I'll give a cancled one for the hope that I may track and file theft charges on the person.
