I've always heard about the infamous Gates of Hell, I've seen them displayed. But I've never seen them used and I'm really very curious about practical application of this device. Specifically I'd like to know: best way to apply, best way to remain in place, how long can this device be safely used in one session, and best way to remove. The basics I get but I really believe in safe play and I thought this might be a good place to start looking for details. Thanks for any advice!

LOL, personally, I thik they look good, but are a tad "oversold"

Apply when the penis is flaccid, and *coff* get yourself excited, but not TOO excited, they should then stay in place. Usually, they do not allow a full erection

I use one of the leather versions of the gates of hell. (I'll throw up a photo of it so you know what I'm talking about.) You are looking at the top of it. There are snaps on the underside. You take the largest ring and put it around the cock and balls.. right up there by the body. The rest of the rings are positioned along the cock while it is flaccid. If you have a sub like mine, that can be a problem. The boy never seems to get totally soft if I have my hands anywhere near his body. sigh. The metal ring type of Gates of Hell are only put on and taken off when the sub is totally flaccid. Removing it at other times could cause damage.

i have worn the stainless rings attached to each other as shown in pic in Beach Mystress' reply for a number of years. At the base is a leather strap that goes behind balls an is padlocked on. This is used as part of a chastity device and is removed only for washing and cleaning. It can only be removed or placed on when flacid. It usually does prevent full erection as it becomes very painful.

I've never used them as a chastity device. Like MissP, I like the aesthetics of them. The leather ones are adjustable, so you can regulate how tight it gets. I also like the fact it can be removed. I'll put the GoH on him as a decoration for the first part of a play party, and unsnap it when I'm ready for some fun :-D

I've got a set that is 7 ring stainless rings, with one leather strap connecting them. THey are various sizes going down in size as you go to the tip.

With this one, since there are no straps and it can't be adjusted at all, the first ring is put behind the testicles and as close to the body as possible. The rest of the rings are layered down the penis, to the smallest ring which is just behind the head.

In this way, it's not easy to keep on. If you loose any girth they start sliding off. But, if you stay erect, they do hold and confine really well. And it feels wonderful. It is heavy, and you can't do anything with them on, neither mastrubation or actual sex of any kind (unless she's REALLY loose). I wear them in prep for a while, and they do tend to come off when I loose interest. Never been able to keep them on for more than an hour, and that was with almost constant stimulation.

I prefer the cock and ball streatcher.

Combining the stainless steel version of the gates of hell with a pair of vibrating clamps is fairly interesting. The penis is contantly stimulated, yet ejaculation is impossible.

You can also get gates with rubber rings. They have the advantage of both having a little bit of give, so it's not so critical to get them all the perfect size. They also can be cut open (in a pinch, so to speak) without needing to resort to power tools, like the solid steel ones.
