Here's the link to the news story

One day almost 30 years ago I was looking through a bookstore $1 clearance table and saw a book cover with an odd drawing, so I picked it up and read the first few words "We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold." Such was my introduction to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and of course I bought two of the hard cover copies. Later I realized that as a kid I had also been wowed reading read Hells Angels book, and later went on to read others including Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail.

How many other writers can be portrayed in movies by the likes of Bill Murray and Johnny Depp? This is a sad day.

Rest in Peace Dr. Gonzo

I always liked his critique of the "Reagan 80's" in his book "A generation of swine"

It makes me wonder if this really was a suicide...or someone in power who wanted to get rid of him.

He did make hamburger out of many sacred cows. (rightfully so)

Ill miss him.

I'm not a literary expert but I certainly know the name Hunter S. Thompson. Of all the things I hate, suicide is the worst way to lose someone so influential.

R.I.P., Hunter.

You could make the argument that he died as he lived his life, completely by his own terms. At any rate, both he and his writing will be missed.

Rest in peace Uncle Duke.

This is most unfortunate...

Was Hunter S. Thompson "offed" for a new forthcoming 9-11 attack expose' ?

Hunter S. Thompson...

"9-11 likely an inside job"....

Pavel -> RE: Hunter Thompson suicide (3/2/2005 8:18:02 PM)

He was offed by the families of millions of bats.

If you're going to kill anyone for being critics of the American goverment, I can think of better targets than Mr Thompson.

[:o]Hi dani, if you feel that is plausible then you might want to read "The 9-11 Timeline" over on this site: http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/. Warning, this is a lot of reading and requires some time put into it, but it is time well spent. sissy Usually hesitates to tell people that populate message boards about it because many of them have an aversion to reading anything longer than a couple of paragraphs in length (that's why they read mbs LOL).

The important factor in all of this is the Project for a New American Century (PNAC). It's website is here: http://www.newamericancentury.org/ If this stuff doesn't scare ya, nothing will. Another pair of good resource are: http://www.fromthewilderness.com/ and http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net/ In fact, Google around on the term "peak oil" for a whole bunch of interesting sites.

Yes, there is a lot of conspiracy theory stuff mixed in with much of this, but what worries sissy most about all of it, is not so much that these agendas and strategies (such as advocated by PNAC) are out there, or are now even being implemented post 9-11, but that we don't hear or see this stuff addressed in the mainstream media. This means that as Americans we have already effectively lost our first amendment rights without even a constitutional amendment to take them away, or acts such as the Patriot Acts I & II to temporarilly (indefinitely ?) suspend them like most of our other important rights have been curtailed. Freedom of the press is no damn good if all the mainstream press is owned by large corporate America with a vested interest in NOT reporting these kind of stories. Thank God for the internet and the alternative press !

When sissy heard that Hunter Thompson had committed suicide, even before he heard the official story, he immediately wondered if foul play was involved. sissy Had no idea what he was working on, but the guy had a brain and could think for himself, and in a nation full of Limbaugh "ditto heads" that's a very precious commodity nowadays.

Sissyslave71 -> RE: Hunter Thompson suicide (3/3/2005 3:07:40 PM)

I will say this.

I HIGHLY doubt the "oficial story" of what happened on 9-11.

I tend to doubt Arabs were involved. Seems like remote control planes and explosives planted in the buildings prior.

I could care less if anyone calls me a "conspiracy theorist".

Questioning the government is true patriotism.

Not blindly following the sheep off the cliff.

Pavel -> RE: Hunter Thompson suicide (3/3/2005 5:36:25 PM)

Why would you need explosives planted in the buildings prior to the attacks? Hell, that's even dangerous, what if someone got nosey and found them? Wouldn't that totally ruin whatever plans you had in place? Why isn't the kinetic energy and planeload of fuel enough to cause the damage that would level the WTC, and badly damage the Pentagon?

For that matter, why is it doubtful that there's Arab involvment? The signs were on the wall prior to 9-11, large attacks had either been thwarted, or attemptes, or done overseas before, and given some hindsight there was lots of indications that there was a terrorist network operating on our soil.

I'll just wrap it up at this. It's good to question the information you get from official channels. But if you're going to hold that information to such doubt, you must apply an equal amount of focus to the truths behind what else you're told or choose to believe. Just because it's the opposite doesn't make it true.

Its easy...so after the planes "hit"...you can then remotely start the explosions to bring down the bulidings.

Hmmm..indeed...well, Bush's cousin ran SECRURICOM...WTC security...so you tell me.

Youre telling me a jet fuel fire(1800F) melted thick steel beams after only one hour?? Youre telling me a fire brought down not one but TWO of the most strongest buildings in the world only after an HOUR? Lol!!! Okay...and Mohammed Attas passport is made out of Kryptonite too right? Name ONE steel frame building in the past 20 years that collapsed due to fire? Better still name one that collapsed in ONE HOUR?

I don't buy it for one minute.

Sissyslave71 -> RE: Hunter Thompson suicide (3/3/2005 6:51:41 PM)

WHERE is the "hot fire"?

STEEL FRAME BUILDING (LIKE WTC) BURNS FOR 2 DAYS...DOESNT COLLAPSE

Pavel -> RE: Hunter Thompson suicide (3/3/2005 7:19:49 PM)

Name one large building hit by a jetliner or exposed to avgas burning for any peroid of time. All you've shown me is grainy pictures, and another set of pictures, with no background.

I'm still saying planting explosives is an idiotic thing to do. You're telling me, that somehow, a whole pile of explosives are going to be hidden on certain floors targeted by an airplane, to be detonated at a certain time and place. These explosives will have to be placed in large numbers, or size, and be hidden from the thousands of people who worked at the WTC daily. Where would you put the bombs in a way that it doesn't raise anyone's attention? Even if the security was owned or connected to the bush family, are you telling me that the average rent a cop with a walkie talkie isn't going to be a bit confused, even perhaps alarmed at what appears to be a large bomb? You could perhaps make the company look away, but what are you going to tell the average worker types "oh, don't worry, the 50 gallon drums/suspecious objects/whatever isn't anything out of the normal?"

Still, I've got some frisbee to kick ass at. I'll be back later with more.

The buildings were DESIGNED TO WITHSTAND A FULLY LOADED 707 to crash into it.

Absolutely....

......and whos to say they are "50 gallon drums" or "large bombs"?

They could have been very small HIGH TECH explosive devices.

From what I can see..you have a high degree of Cognitive Dissonance on this matter.

By the way...AVGas is different from Jet fuel...just ask any FAA certified A&P mechanic.

Clearly.....you are ducking the facts at hand. The pictures speak for themselves.

There was no "hot fire" that melted steel beams..nice try.
