Why would you code to a browser?

Write to the spec, and let the browser coders worry about compliance.

You get paid by the hour, don't you?

What's the security potential of crappy javascript vs. crappy java in a properly run operating system, i.e.: one which , unlike Microsoft Windows is run without root privileges everyday?

The point is, if there's a vulnerability, it's in the underlying O/S. Switch to better o/s, OR hold MSFT's feet to the fire to actually produce an O/S which doesn't totally suck, and the point is moot.

Of course, the other aspect is, since it's an O/S issue, then IE's got the SAME PROBLEM.

And pointing out the clear benefits of using FF2 for it's spellchecker is totally ON TOPIC, for a topic about Firefox 2's spellchecker.

Actually, my interest wasn't to start a browser war.  I know a lot of people have trouble with spelling, and spell checkers make it much easier to post.  I didn't post my reasons for liking Firefox over IE, because I wanted to avoid the argument.

Simply put, if your posts are spelled well, your ideas will come across better - it's the virtual version of showing up to a munch or date dressed nicely, instead of a mu-mu with ketchup stains smelling of unwashed dog.

I think people put too much energy in focusing on the wrong things.  It is much akin to chasing after a girl because she is hot, rather than chasing after her personality.  Personally I do not give a damn about spelling, and I am most certainly not going to judge someone by it, nor am I willing to waste 20 megs on a useless dog of a browser to pretend to be someone I am not.  If you do not like how I spell, tough shit.  Know what I mean?

Unbelievable. Pretend to be what? Hello, we use FF to surf the intarweb. Nobody cares a damn what we surf with.  We don't really either as long as it pegs the url we paste in. Dunno where you get IE bein' faster..mine loads almost 4 times slower than my FF, with 2 or 3 less homepage tabs than my nomal 8 I bring up firefox with. Thats right, know why? IE7 flat out wouldn't load em, and came up whining. Now ain't that a daisy?
I think youre focusing on the wrong things.  We the users want the functionality.  3-4 years using FF with NO PROBLEMS, having tabbed browsing which IsEvil 7 just finally put out their lame SLOW version of. M$'s browser is and always has been PROPRIETARY, and as a user, let me just say I think it blows.  I'm somewhat of a box builder, and over the last couple years all my pc children were ringing me up about how their pc's wouldnt boot anymore. Sigh, I told em about keeping their anti-virus up to date, but who knew about spyware?

Newsflash: They didnt have FF, no, just that pieco-crap IE and it's confounded activeX. So I made the rounds, set em up with FF, and some good anti-spyware, after a safe-mode or clean-boot to get back in and clean out the mess IsEvil666 had cursed them with. Haven't heard a peep from one of 'em since.

And you know as well as I do, NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS.

Aww, well youre a webmaster and having lil probs coding for FF?
You know what they say in Russia pal?
Tough shitskies.
Deal please.
Firefox rules.

Edit to say: Personality? You kidding me? Gimme the hottress dood...lol.

"to pretend to be someone I am not. If you do not like how I spell, tough shit. Know what I mean?"

So you don't proofread your resume or marketing materials before printing and sending them out?

Hello?!?!?!  This is a discussion forum.  In case you have yet to figure this out, I am not marketting shit.  I am sharing My ideas.  If you base your opinions of someone on their spelling, the problem lies with you, not them.

This is the most bizzare flamewar I've ever seen.  I feel like I'm watching The Simpsons, where the nerd kids were arguing via a BBS about who's better, Captain Kirk or Picard.

Wow, I feel like I've just seen two ghosts!  Suze, sub, howya been?

Life is good, Voltare.  I'm currently in school studying  network and security engineering.  Dry but not entirely without interest.

I noticed that you were posting again and was pleased to see not only your posts but that you are back with sound mind and body.  I've always enjoyed your posts, even if I haven't always agreed with you.  When you are away I think of you and hope for your safety.

As for what's happened at cm since you were away - it's pretty much status quo, although it became a bit of a bore to watch SK set himself up for his daily dose of pummeling with his antagonistic-by-default attitude.  I suppose everyone's gotta get their fix in their own way.  I usually skip his posts and am pretty sure he does the same to me so it's all good.

Again, it's good to see you and I appreciate the link.  I'm going to miss siteadviser until it's updated for the new browser, but there are some other interesting add-ons that will keep me occupied until Mcafee catches up.

Appearance Counts. It's built into the genes. Oh, it's M-A-R-K-E-T-I-N-G.

Your idea is apparently that tools which help improve your ability to communicate clearly and unambiguously are bad things. Or you just hate firefox so much you'll deny the usefulness. Since you could EASILY participate and IMPROVE firefox rather than complain, I guess you just like complaining.

I like Firefox. Might not know all the technical differences, but I know that it worked better than IE on my dinosaur computer that was running Windows 98SE and it's not giving me any issues so far on this nice new juggernaut.

JAK, do you have a link to/more info on the antivirus software you mentioned?

I use AVG Free from Grisoft.  Low system needs, auto updater, virus scanner, etc etc.

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5

It is just a great free anti-virus package.  A separate firewall is also recommended.  Avast! is also great for fixing problems after the fact, but (last I knew) it doesn't include a free real time virus scanner.

When was the last fucking time you walked into an office with a resume typed out on Firefox?  haha  Better yet, when was the last time you composed a website using Firefox?

Now, if you were to say "you should check out the new spell check features in Star Office" or "Frontpage", I would be all ears.
