Inspired by a question on another thread. Think back... when you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up? Have you acheived that or moved on to other things?

Me, I wanted to work with animals. Instead, I ended up going to culinary school. So.. I guess in a way I DO work with animals... just not how I pictured it!

When I was little I wanted to write books

When I was 12 I wanted to be Indiana Jones, and I fell in love with the actual science of archaeology... but instead of staying with that I segued into cultural anthropology instead.

I am still writing too

I wanted to be a veterinarian. I even went to college for it... and while I was in school, I found out that I get pink eye from cat fur.
So much for that career choice.

Now, I run a photo lab.

I was torn between wanting to be a psychologist and wanting to major in business and decided on the latter.  While in high school, I didn't really know which area of business I would pursue, but had an interest in Accounting and Information systems.  I ended up getting a BS and an MBA degree with a concentration in Information Systems and am employed in the IT field.

I wanted to do hair and make-up for movies and tv.  I also wanted to be an FBI agent, and PI..

I haven't done any of those things, and that sort of sucks when I think about it.

I think I might go ahead and do the hair and make-up part here soon, but I doubt at my old age I will ever make it to Hollywood.

Heh,  I wanted to be a scientist when I was a kid.

The closest thing to "science" related fields I've worked was as an assistant in a fruit processing plant's lab,  and again in a grain lab for General Mills.

The majority of my myriad jobs have been more along the "muscle" variety:  bouncer,  security guard,  bodyguard,  repo-man,  working for a bailbond company (ie people repo).  Definately not a scientist.

I wanted to be a nun or a social worker.

Obviously the nun thing didnt catch hold of me..

The social worker thing?? well...I have done it from an amateur standing for many years..either as a crisis councellor or just trying to keep families together that I seem to come in contact with. Now if only I could get paid for being a busy body...THAT would be really nice

Just as today, when I was a young one I was a jack of all trades. I could never decide what I wanted to be. I listened to my parents and teachers and "decided" I wanted to be a writer, so I majored in journalism, mastered in English, and was miserable throughout my college career. If I had it to do over again, I'd do something with science or medicine.

I wanted to be an a medical doctor, but than the reality of medical school costs on top of college tuition made me think twice. Got my license in mortuary science, so I guess I still work with patients, just a little beyond the time a doctor can help them.

Flattery will get you nowhere.  Though my looks and rep might have me working as security for LKH next year.

I had planned to be a bio-chemist, accepted to university and everything but couldn't swing the fees *pouts*  So I took my first year of Education to be a teacher and realized I really don't like children in hordes, also known as a classroom ( I subbed for a year as a non certified sub for the district where I lived to learn that one)

Got tired of doing menial jobs and applied to college for Office Admin, got a full grant, worked for 3 years decided I wanted to be boss instead of underling. Went back to College for my Management Degree. Finished my diploma, got really sick and could not continue on to my degree at that time. Got married instead lol, had a mini me, went back to college to pick up some courses in medical terminology to work for the the local health unit. Got divorced, moved and I'm now the Office Manager & Executive Assistant for one of the fastest growing Service Rig Companies in Northern Alberta. So It all worked out.

Actually kind of glad I didn't finish my Management Degree, would have encouraged my workaholic tendancies and I probably never would have had my midget.
