Has anyone else noticed whenever someone talks about submissives they use the feminine pronoun when referring to the sub? I don't know if anyone else has seen this or not. Is there a strong bias that sbmissives are all women?

Im guilty of doing that. I don't know what the percentages are, but of course there are male submissives and switches too. Usually for the point Im trying to make, its pretty much irrelevant as to the gender of the submissive party anyway.

I think if you trot over to the ask a misstress forum you will see a reverse bias. Why there is a general bias might be attributable to the fact that we call a ship or any vehicle she by custom. What is a slave but a vehicle for virulent notions? Ron

I too for the most part speak as sub is female. I think it's because I am female more than it's I'm biased toward gender. Usually I'm in here conveying my personal experiences which are from a female sub perspective. I mean no disrespect to male sub's and do try to just use Dom or sub, but if we all were considerate it would always be Dom/Domme/Master/Mistress/Lord/Lady/God/Goddess and sub/maid/slave/toy/pet etc... As we all don't need to type all the extra characters to convey our own personal point of view I think most of us just take out the identifying pronoun and insert the one that naturally fits us. Sorry if this offends some people, but like the saying goes you can't please all the people all the time." Another expression that would fit here is "I aim to please, but sometimes my aim isn't so good." suzanne

Yet, I just thought it was interesting to see it here since the forums for submissives aren't broken down based on gender like the dominates are.

Most people will use the pronoun that fits with their wants and desires. If I'm not mistaken, most of the people represented in the forums are Male Dominant, female submissive. Some of us make and effort to use the non-gender-specific pronouns of "they" and "them" or simply call a sub a sub or slave. Sometimes, that comes through and sometimes it doesn't...sometimes that annoys me and I comment and sometimes it doesn't. grins Master Fire

Interesting point I hadn't really thought of... I think MasterFire hit the nail on the head with people using what their particular experience/desire is. In fact, I seem to remember a study on something similar that ended up in my thesis, but I'd have to dig it out to look it up... and my masochistic streak isn't anywhere near wide enough to do that :)

This is a predominantly hetero male dom/fem sub population- people use the labels they most identify with. Try not to take it personally.

Mary, I was thinking the same thing, women are more verbal than men according to scientists. If I was a betting person I would say that there are probably more registered male users on this site than female, yet there seems to be more women posting than men, and there are more female submissives than dommes...

I definitly agree as someone said previously that woman are much more verbal than men. I also think, withhout scientific proof of course, that woman are more into "group chat" and group "support, sharing experiences and advice. However, I think that submissive men probably do initiate many more emails, IM requests, chat requests to dominant woman than female slaves send to potential Masters. Bottom line, It doesn't really matter to me that the language in forum is directed more towards female slaves than males since female slavery is more the natural order, and there are enough topics and threads that I find of interest...like this one, for example.

A quick visit to the 'Ask a Sub/Slave' section might show you that it's inclusive for all slaves. My experience has been that most male submissives would rather talk to an IRS auditor than another male submissive. Folks who speak French, Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish (amongst others) understand that gender specific nouns do not necessarily reflect the gender as a group, or even individual. Like Fire, I tend to make an effort to use non-gender specific articles and pronouns. I also make an effort not to get too bent out of shape if someone doesn't dot their i and cross their t just right.

I take pains to he/she or "they" the generic "sub" because I'm into both/all gendered subs. I'm just a pig, it's not inclusive. :)

It could be that many of the submissives that post here are female and use the term "sub" as the feminine because it is simply an expression of herself. Personally, typing "Dom/mes / Masters / Mistresses" any time I wish to express myself is monotonous which I why I use my own situation from which to post - feminine use of "sub", Masculine use of "Dom".

I don't see it as a gender bias. Most of us know that there are both male and female submissives; just as we know that there are male and female dominants. I don't think we need to use a disclaimer every time we talk about them to let others know that we can appreciate the fact that there are two different genders at work [:)]
