If you're not, well it's neither here nor there and simply an error of judgement. On your "where I live" point, Manchester (where I live) and Preston (where I work) have large ethnic communities which should tell you I know what exactly what it's like in such an area.

Then you have misread my posts - i never said i minded or didnt mind it. I said it was stupid to fight a cause you cant win when there are so many we can win to fight instead. As i have already stated statistics can be wrong and i think you'll find that a lot of our ethnic friends are living in damn good accomodation. I dont like having labels put on me much the same as most people dont and would appreciate you refraining from doing so. I too have spent time in preston and manchester and find them to be nothing like bradford. So im afraid i would have to disagree with you on knowing what it is like to live in an area with a large ethnic community.

NorthernGent there is no need to be condescending to me. I was responding 'with my opinion' to a question of why nationality would matter. Of course it matters. It is a different culture coming to a different culture. That does not mean that I don't consider the UK to be: cjenny, believe it or not we are a nation of people who believe we are at least as free as any people on this planet. Tolerance, decency, liberty, enterpreneurship, supporter of the underdog - this is how we view ourselves. Sadly, this isn't matching reality. Must sound familiar eh? The US is still new in many ways. We don't have the physical history of most other places. 230 years ago is not long past. That is why I said that yes, it does matter when coming from a particular perspective. And I just ran out of energy lol so no more posting tonight. I still really really really want a cig.

In some countries like Japan the policeman lives on his beat. When you move into a neighborhood he will come to your house and introduce himself and give you his card with his phone number and address on it and invite you to call him if you need anything that he can help you with. He will also come twice a year and search your home and you are expected to make and serve tea for him as a courtesy for this service. Japan is different from the US in many ways. In the US a policeman who lives on his beat is almost unknown. Most policemen do not patrol in the city they live in. Their phone numbers and addresses are restricted but on the other hand they need a warrant to search your house and the warrant must be specific as to what they are searching for...ie. they may not look for a stolen car in your desk drawers. thompson

I lived there for three years, from 1995-1998 and the only strange face I saw at my front door was a pair of bewildered Mormons from Utah doing missionary work.
