Trucker, perhaps it is time.

What else will spur on the change ? The majority of the people need to be for drastic change, and they are not,,,,yet. Let it come, and let everybody see what happens.

Then we might see some change.

Wiki Article

So far, the US dollar is a defacto currency in not just the Americas, but the entire world.  I live in Santiago, Chile (further from New York than Istanbul, Turkey) and getting on the subway, the woman ahead of me paid for her ticket with five US dollars (and received her change in pesos.)  Twenty US dollars ensure a good meal in virtually every part of the world with a banking system.  However, there are no plans in the works to implement the Amero, simply because of the imbalance of power that would be involved:  The US Economy is larger than the rest of North and South America's Economies combined.

There is some buzz about the creation of the SPP (Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America.)  From their Website I found a section detailing the concept of a unified currency:

quote:

Myth: The SPP is a movement to merge the United States, Mexico, and Canada into a North American Union and establish a common currency. Fact: The cooperative efforts under the SPP, which can be found in detail at www.spp.gov, seek to make the United States, Canada and Mexico open to legitimate trade and closed to terrorism and crime. It does not change our courts or legislative processes and respects the sovereignty of the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The SPP in no way, shape or form considers the creation of a European Union-like structure or a common currency. The SPP does not attempt to modify our sovereignty or currency or change the American system of government designed by our Founding Fathers.

Incidentally,  I found this little gem in the source document:

quote:

As a line in the above National Ledger article reads, "Our currency will be replaced with the "Amero." And, we'll be one giant step closer to the U.N.'s perverse dream of a one-world government.

What's exactly would be perverse about a unified world government?  More importantly, who believes that (barring World War III) one is likely to emerge in the next two or three hundred years?
