MarginalMonster -> Yahoo Messenger - Offline IM (12/30/2006 6:33:47 PM)

Hello

I'm wondering if anyone here might know the difference between ''Offline'' and ''Offline IM'' as it pertains to Yahoo messenger when looking at someones 360 profile. Some ''friends'' say offline and some say offine IM  ?

Thanks in advance.

ummmm, well there either Online or they are Offline.  On, they are there, Off they are not.

offline means they are not logged in at all.  offline IM means they are logged into their yahoo page or whatever but not into the IM service

offline can mean many things.

i generally keep yahoo in an offline status as i am up and about quite often.  But if some one IMs me i get it when i get it.  Plus it keeps the wierdo's away and no one feels miffed if i'm not talking to them..

Offline means they aren't signed into anything. Offline IM means they use the name for Yahoo Messenger and you can drop them a message they'll see the next time they sign on, but they aren't currently signed in. Some people use their Yahoo names for everything BUT IM'ing, so it would be pointless to send them a message they'll never receive.

If I am not logged into my Yahoo IM account, you can still send me an IM.  I will receive it when I log in.  This is considered sending me an "offline."  I think other IMs do not have that feature; I know MSN did not when I used it before.

I completely understand what you are getting at but my question was a little different and I probably didn't lay it out clear enough.

Ok, here goes. If you have a yahoo360 profile or you know someone who does, go to it.  There's a long rectangle box on the right side of the page that at the top says ''friends''. Inside the box various ''friends'' are listed.

Ok, if you look at the ''status'' on each of the friends, some say ''offline'' and some say ''offline IM''. It just doesn't seem right because the same ''friends'' are on someone ele's 360 profile and the status is different for the same person depending upon who's profile your looking at.

Thanks again.

i use yahoo and also have 360 offline means that they are offline. offline im means that you can send them an offline. it depends on the way the person has their 360 set up and how they add friends to it
