another Warm Fuzzy--embracing your individuality!!!

As much as certain members of the human race just love to group together and share similar interests and traits, we’d be hard pressed to find someone identical—physically, intellectually, sexually, etc.—to ourselves, or someone who reacted identically to the same stimulus.

In an attempt to understand motivations or responses, this slave most definitely sees the wisdom in posing questions to others regarding certain topics…for instance, Noah’s question on “How submissiveness Feels” got a variety of responses from individuals, ranging from lengthy paragraphs relating physical sensations in response to a perceived shift to a submissive mode brought on by a variety of physical or mental stimulus, to brief reports of no perceived “feeling” whatsoever from a submissive identity, orientation or action.  He didn’t come out of the gate with “How should I feel as a submissive?”, though, he specifically worded it to those who identify as submissive, how it felt TO THEM.

somehow, folks still come to the conclusions that “I read it in a book by ___________(insert author’s name here) so it must be true, or the 'way things should be'…” or “LordGodMaster_of_TheUniverse&Domliest_of_Doms, frequent poster to CM wrote it, so it must be true or the 'way things should be'…” when they have no practical reason for believing other than it “sounds” reasonable and is more comfortable than the alternative of the unknown, but due to lack of individual experience have no clue how it relates to them personally.

with all due respect, the authors of the various BDSM themed books as well as some popular posters here are, collectively and individually, a wealth of information on a variety of topics from the practical and safety related aspects to their reports of their own experiences and relationships.  however, they are still mere mortals…far as this slave can tell…and individuals, with opinions tempered by their own research and experiences and personal kink level—but by no means are they experts on the individuals who come to their computer terminals seeking answers to questions only they as individuals could possibly know the answer to, after embracing that individuality and experiencing it for themselves.

to everyone who comes here seeking answers, this slave would encourage you to take every response with a big grain of salt and try to keep in mind that regardless of the wording, the folks with all the answers, have merely found the answers for themselves.

this slave, in particular, makes no claim whatsoever to speak from a position of knowledge of what it is or how it feels to be “a” slave, or in “an” M/s relationship.  Only what it is to be this slave and how things work in the M/s relationship of which she is a part.  Embrace your individuality, find solace that your definitions are yours and that your mileage will indeed vary, and that’s a good thing!!!

Happy New Year, everyone!!!

however, they are still mere mortals

Except of course for those self-proclaimed goddesses

Great post, beth.  I have seen those who have never been owned tell long time owned slaves they are only fantasizing.  We have seen many opinions bandied about as "facts for us all" most insistently.  But I suppose it the far fetched opinions, as well as those that make great sense to us, remind us of our individuality.  Like you, I can only speak from my experiences, and am only guessing about the rest.

Thanks for your insight.  Happy New Year to you, too!

A most enjoyable read. This post should be required reading for many. We are all different in our philosophy's and make judgements based on our own experience. Yours is obviously well founded and has stood the test of time for yourself, as it should.

Happy New Year to you

That's pretty much how it should be in life itself. Sure we can listen to other people, we can watch them..and if we learn something by others communications to us that enriches our journey , great.

However, Adolph Hitler wrote a book ....

My mom thinks everything in the newspaper is true...

Often when I read the forums, I observe more criticisms than answers to questions.

Great post beth and very wise words.
There are many on the forum who believe they know it all and their way is the only way, and often those asking questions, get belittled for not following the *true way*,  and don't get their questions answered.  And when they do get answered, as you said, we should take the answers with a grain ( or 2 ) of salt.

For as many people as there are on the forum, there are as many different truths. Find the truth that works for you.

Unfortunatly, we are just people like everyone else, just because this particular door in our mind is open, it dosn't mean that the one next to it is.  Being or living BDSM, dosn't automatically make people nice, or unjudgemental.

All you can do is be the best you can be, and allow those who prefer to judge rather then help, to just fall away like water off a ducks back.

I don't know that I'd term it "criticism" as, perhaps, closemindedness.  What I do observe so very often is someone asking for opinions when what s/he really wants is justification/agreement.  We all have our own opinions...the way things work for us as individuals or couples (or more) and I see many posters stating their beliefs...some a little more forcefully than others.  At that point, so many times, the OP comes back with an argument (for lack of a better term).  Well, I agree with beth...take the opinions of the posters for what they are worth.  If the advice sounds like it will work for you...try it.  If not, move on.

thanks to everyone for the replies and also for the well wishes!!!

the inspiration for this thread came through a few of the current threads and the posters to some past threads.  there are those that always lump folks or experiences together based on a particular trait or gender or orientation and consequently someone ends up accepting it as gospel and/or somehow being offended.  there are several folks that seem to have difficulties and frustrations with themselves, their relationships and then, after they have posed a question here, with the advice they are given as well.

this slave does not come to CM to bask in the humiliation, frustration and emotional upset of others...and certainly hopes that no-one takes her responses to posts as intended to instigate such things.  As well, this slave does not come here to preach from the pulpit--this slave is merely a choir member, one of many who sing praises.

having CM as a resource for sharing of thoughts, ideas, excerpts from people's experiences, helpful hints and tips as folks relate to BDSM and incorporate it into their lives in their own unique way is a great thing!!!
to the owners/operators/moderators that keep this site up and running, a very heartfelt thank you and best wishes for CM's New Year!!!

beth,
Wonderful post. Thank you so much. All anyone can really do, in my opinion, is to speak from their personal experiences and views and let others take what resonates and works for them and discard the rest. A lot of times people speak their experience as the way things are period. That is so sad and misleading especially for those who are new and finding their way.

Happy New Year to you both.
