pahunkboy -> scanner "errors" this many years later! (12/31/2006 8:33:45 AM)

I find it rediculous- that this many years later- one has to watch the scanner at the check out like a hawk!!!  When they do error- it is usually in the stores favor!  I bought 5 bags of dog food today. They were to ring up at $3.00. They rang up at $3.50. I had to point this out. The clerk said I should have told her sooner. I asked if I get a free one since it scanned wrong. She said no..but that she had to over-ride the item.

Year after year- we accept this as a consumer.

It fricken sucks!

Very true, but humans are prone to make errors.  It's them that put the prices into the computers in order for them to ring up right and therefore...mistakes will always happen.

It does suck, but it's the way it is.  Most do have a policy of $3 off, or the item free..whichever is more..they don't like to do it though.

At my local grocery store, if it comes up at the wrong price, you get one of the item for free.
Ive had stuff ring up wrong in my favor before.
I tend to think all balances out.

Mine too.  I've gotten a few things for free, but I'm sure I overpaid too.

I think if they knew everyone was watching the scanner for accuracy- maybe it would be more accurate.

Im not sure that it balances out. I know it is easier to freaze the transaction before you render payment. as they seem to think going to the custmer service booth and doing that line waiting is no problemo.

Last week- I returned a 3 pack of gum. the guarantee is if you arent satified- money back. the quality was bad.
They dotn like it- I also returned cashew nuts that were ungodly salty.

hmm. im one awnerry bitch. lol

Cashews can be too salty??  I like salty cashews, you should've sent them to me.

i can prove i am just a little smarter than i look(wouldn't i have to be?) and keep my comment to myself

i know what my total will be before i get to the check out, and if it doesn't come out properly one way or the other, we go over the order item by item... it's funny how most cashiers really don't appreciate that much trouble especially when it rings up in your favor

-i dont bother to tell them if the price scanned wrong in my favor.
who cares about an impersonal corporation. ..if the farmer made an error- ild kindly return the overage. he is always fair.

Speed or accuracy you can’t have both I’m told.

I worked at Wal-Mart for four months. Although the little sign above the register says $3 back if we ring it up wrong, that's only after you've paid, according to my managers. If you merely note the error and I fix it before you pay, no money back. And always be sure to ask about getting 10% off something that's dirty or in a damaged package. Most of the supervisors had no problem granting it.

It isn't the scanners fault.  It is the chain that isn't keeping track of their employees properly.
In some states, stores are warned and can be shut down if they don't come into compliance rapidly.
I believe the overall law is you should get it free.  Though no store wants to give you the item for free so it will always be a fight.
Though you can get even by going to your government and filing a complaint.

It is the voluntarly policy of many stores to give you the item free. Ive had this experience before and there was never a fight.

So while you say "always" and "no store wants to"... my experience shows differently.
