In the Fashion Industry, a BBW/Plus-sized woman is an American size 14 and over. Lane Bryant, the Avenue, Catherine's and Torrid all start their products at a size 14 and go up from there.

I used to work at the Avenue and all i can say is that for all the bitching women have done over the decades, we are FINALLY getting some nice styles in.

You should hear me scream at that Nutriystem commercial when she bubbles..""Wow! Look at me..I'm a Size TWO!.  I was a 6.. but I decided to do something about it (or some such claptrap)"  A SIX???!  Why that COW!

That commercial should be outlawed.  You know.. I don't recall any size under a size 8 when when I was growing up. I know they re-did the sizing.. but now Zeros???

And why is it that women are "fat".. and men are "big"?

I despise the Kirstie Alley "Have you called Jenny yet?" ads

I liked Kirstie's shape when she was on Veronica's Secret (wasn't that the name of the sitcom?)

i still remember those days when the Avenue and Lane Bryant had the worst fashion styles and sense ...now - they're becoming more hip and fashionable

News to this fat guy [8D]

i've always been overweight and hated my body. So i exercised like mad, starved myself, and got down to a normal weight for my height over the course of more than a year. And i was hungry all the time, and sick and damned tired of exercising, and i still looked at myself in the mirror and said "yuck" [:'(] So i decided, hell with it. i get more satisfaction out of eating than i do out of anything having to do with being thinner, so i might as well eke what enjoyment i can out of life instead of crushing it in a vain attempt to fit into society's standards, only to get nothing in return. So, i wouldn't call myself "fat and happy", much less "big and beautiful", but i'll say i'm an unapologetic fat guy. i gained forty pounds in the past year, and really, the only downside is that i have to buy new pants, and i hate shopping for clothes.

Does anyone remember Kevin Meany and his dialogue on BIG PANT PEOPLE?  This is now the Mantra of my Family.. WE ARE BIG PANT PEOPLE...even my size 6 daughter is on the band wagon...She likes BHM's

I've struggled with weight issues my entire life, but I've struggled even more with overcoming the "fat" stigma and realizing that I am a pretty cool and sexy woman at any size.  That doesn't mean that I don't plan to lose weight, it just means that I don't base feeling confident and sexy on how slender I am.  Weight fluctuates, but having confidence and happiness within can carry you through those fluctuations.

Be well,
Julie

It is kinda funny.  During the Victorian era, plus size women were seen as the most desirable.  Look at all the art.  They are all plus sizes.  Somehow corporate America has managed to twist and distort the image just like every other fucking thing under the sun they can get their hands on, like Valentine's Day and Commercemas, so they can cash in on it.  Of course, there are disadvantages to being obese..  Health problems and stuff like that, but for those that it is not an issue then what the hell?  I am very slender, but I happen to really like chubby women and I will take them over some beanpole any day of the week.
