missturbation -> Tourists *tut* lol (1/2/2007 8:30:14 AM)

I'm going to look slightly intelligent for a second - please take note it doesn't happen very often. I was browsing the news online (yes, really i can read too) [:D] and found this article on tourists and the silly questions they ask. The full link is at the bottom of this post but here are a few of my favourites.

'Are there any lakes in the lake district?'
'Do you have any information on Sam fox?' (former page three girl)
'What time does the midnight train leave?'
'Which bus do i get from the orkney islands to the shetland islands?'
'What time of night does the loch ness monster surface and who feeds it?'
And my personal favourite just for my God - 'Can you tell me who performs in the circus at Picadilly?'

Oh come on you didn't expect a serious news article from me did ya? [:D]

Having experienced similar whilst doing living history at Warwick castle, I can only add that I reckon all these are true LOL!

But, we grow up with this stuff you know? And there are plenty of Brits who honestly wonder why Robin Hood didnt use a gun, and think King Arthur was English, etc. Its not exactly fair to laugh at tourists, when our own know nothing - at least the tourists take an interest!

And by the way, yes its true about Japanese tourists with the camera thing!

I used to live in Baraboo Wisconsin. In case anyone doesn't know where that is, it's 45 minutes northwest of Madison and known for three things - Devil's Lake, a rockclimber's paradise; the International Crane Foundation; and Circus World Museum. The Ringling brothers were born there and it has the historic Al Ringling theatre. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, the circus performs three times a day. It's tourist hell for any local. I swore if I got asked where the road to Devil's Lake was one more time, I was gonna strangle people because the signs are clearly marked all over the god damn town. Grr.

That's one of the many reasons I don't wanna go back to that smallish town.
