I was wondering, did anyone see CSI:NY tonight?
If you did what did you think about the way they handled the case with the BDSM? I know what they showed was the most severe case posibility, but I was wondering if you thought the lifestyle was portrayed worse then usual or was not so bad?
Silly question I know, but was just wondering about y'all's thoughts on it...
Is there such a thing as a "screamer"?

i am not sure which one you are refering to--is it the one where the guy would kidnap the girls and paint pictures of them before he killed them?

No, it wasn't.

In this episode a woman was strapped onto a contraption on the front of a SUV. It held her bound and gagged upside down.
Her husband was driving and another lady was filming from inside the car.

For whatever reason, the husband decided to give her more then she bargained for and took the SUV up over 100 miles an hour, completely ignoring the "stop" signal of the interior light flashing that was hooked up to a switch that the woman had in her hand.
The woman that was filming was yelling to slow down, that he was breaking her trust.

He lost control of the vehicle and his wife was killed when they hit a tree. The two in the car stripped her and left her there.

These people were part of a bondage club but they didn't say a whole lot about it. The guy who built the equipment "Garage Joe" was portrayed as somewhat of a whacko.

It was a situation that was the worst that can happen and no, I don't think the "bondage" lifestyle was portrayed in a postive manner at all. Hard to when someones being a dick and gets someone killed.

I still think the original CSI has the best yet with the character of Lady Heather.

Season 4, episode 315, Lady Heather's Box. You can still find it at Blockbuster.

Lady Heather rocked, and was one of the only positive sides I've seen shown of the BDSM world. Usually, the TV shows bring up the worst side possible, showing the monsters who hide behind the mask of BDSM.. the people who would not be accepted even by the most liberal "everyone's kink is ok" type. To me, this is like trying to show what all marriages are like by only showing cases of abused spouses. While I understand they are not in the business of showing reality, and that kink makes good copy and gains ratings, people believe what they see on TV. I've actually has someone say to me "if it wasn't true, they wouldn't show it."

-snickers- When I was watching the CSI episode with Lady Heather in it my mom and sister both turned and stared at me. Mom asked, "Is there something you aren't telling us?" I just grinned.

BeachMystress -> RE: Did you watch? (2/25/2005 1:45:35 AM)

LOL, my housemate turned to me and said.. "You should do that. You're enough of a bitch. You'd be good at it." It was so hard not to tell him yes, I AM damned good at it. The best part is that a few weeks later he caught me looking at one of the vids I made of one of my subs. He didn't realize it was mine, since I had headphones on (which is how he walked up on me without me noticing) and only my sub is shown in the clip. When he made some comment about what I was watching, I told him that gee, I was just looking into things like he told me to do.. The poor guy now thinks he is responsible for corrupting me.

About 4 months after that, I went off to housesit his folk's house for a month while they were gone. I accidently left out Screw the Roses while I was gone. When I got home, he was making jokes about the female cat using a strap on with the male cat. I was taken aback till I realized what I'd left out. Whoops! I still like to believe that my housemate doesn't have a clue what I do. My sub will be coming over next Thursday.. you think I should have him take the silver nail polish off of his toes first? LMAO

Unfortunately, i think it would be naive for us to really expect anything other than this kind of portrayal in entertainment on a regular basis...after all, they are trying to entertain the masses, and for the most part, the masses want no or little part of what we do.

Sad, but true,

One of the amazing things about TV is it's ability to influence society... sometimes negatively, sometimes positively. I have a very unusual admission to make regarding CSI's role in my life... The episode "Lady Heather's Box" is THE reason I became aware that I am submissive... I knew I was missing something very important in my life but had no idea what it was. I watched this episode of CSI and felt something very real stir inside of me, it prompted me to learn more... and now here I am.
Some people may consider this ridiculous, but it was my defining moment.

Chupaflor -> RE: Did you watch? (2/25/2005 12:42:33 PM)

I have to take a quiet smile. Since I am relativly new, though not as new as my Sir (who is also my hubby) and he just recently "outted" himself to me about his desire too learn more of the lifestyle, we watched, and all he could say was "So do people really do that?" I thought he was talking about the "screamer" on the front of the F150! He was talking about the people being furniture...So now I am left too wonder if I will be asked too become the coffee table or should I worry the next time he wants to "enhance" our SUV?

oceangem -> RE: Did you watch? (2/26/2005 11:49:53 AM)

There is a web site www.houseofgord.com well known for his forniphilia (human furniture).

i found it quite interesting as to where they came up with the idea of the "screamer", possibly kink friendly production assistants.
i know someone that works within the film industry and He has worked on some films and shows, that have some kind of tying up of a person, tho the crew had no idea how to tie up a person, He said it was the hardest thing for Him not to jump in give some pointers.

newflowers -> RE: Did you watch? (2/26/2005 3:33:41 PM)

I have thought that someone on the production staff og CSi is kink friendly. I did not see that episode, but I have seen a few other CSi's in which there have been non-judgemental portrayals of BDSM - some have even been downright positive. I refer specifically to the Thursday show.

littlebuttercup -> RE: Did you watch? (3/13/2005 4:57:40 AM)

i've seen a few episodes of CSI relating to certain "lifestyles" (ie: furries, BBW), and i have to say i found them entertaining, but by no means an accurate portrayal of any one group of people. i guess being set in Vegas affords them all sorts of "kinky" subjects.

i do worry though that people who arent as savvy about "alternative" lifestyles as i am might take what they are showing as the norm.

then again if an episode can help someone to find their true self, then i say it's great.
