GOP is defending the status quo in every way that I think actually harms this country. Realistically, the GOP is still in for a spanking (v 2?) over the current executive.

The Dems are trying to make something of has-beens that have already been weighed and found wanting. Obama and Clinton haven't a chance, not even running together - it ain't gonna happen. Gore is now too happy with his status as a celebrity conservationist. Kerry needs never to show his face again. Howard Dean was effectively character assassinated last time around.

That pretty much leaves John Edwards. Edwards who voted for the war. If this is the best the Dems have got...WTF? But then Edwards does seem kinda cute, so he might be able to work that whole attractive young man routine like the Kennedy boys did. He's really clean cut looking too and lots of chicks juice up for that family man stuff.

The Dems have to be more than GOP lite if they expect to win.

I agree on Obama/Hillary, and think Edwards is the only one with a chance, though wouldn't mind at all seeing Howard Dean give it a try for a come back...  People probably won't remember anything from way back.    M

If he's running, the one potential candidate you've failed to mention is the very likable and moderate senator from Indiana, Evan Bayh.

I haven't really done a whole lot of in-depth research on him.....but he's every bit as likable as Edwards, and far more experienced. His family has a storied past in American politics, and with a good running mate he could be very appealing to mainline of the democratic voting bloc.

Of course, he wouldn't be someone I would vote for....but I'm just evaluating the situation from the perspective of that of the status-quo.
