DigitalNoise -> BDSM Gear Suppliers (1/3/2007 7:58:43 PM)

Other than local shops (which I'm not going to go into...LMAO), does anyone know of some good, decent online sites that sell BDSM and/or fetish gear?

I've been referenced to http://stockroom.com - they've got a nice selection but I'm sure they're not the only game out there.

Oh, and anyone have a favorite site or book on tying knots - the kind that are safe and appropriate for use during a session?

Sweet! Hmmm...I need to do some shopping...

Anyone have recommendations for a first time Dom's toy chest?  Ie. what are some must have's, etc?

BootBlackBlast -> RE: BDSM Gear Suppliers (1/4/2007 1:57:32 AM)

Words to live by:  "Don't buy junk - you'll only throw it out".  That said, you don't have to spend a fortune.

Specifically what you get will depend on your personal interests.

Since you mentioned rope bondage, I'd recommend "Jay Wiseman's Erotic Bondage Handbook' as a really excellent start on addressing skills and safety.  You can buy rope at Home Depot or Lowe's - look for something fairly soft and washable and thick.  The most economic way to buy rope is buy longer lengths and cut down yourself.  I personally don't find lengths shorter than 15 feet to be useful.

A good "workhorse" piece to have in your bag is a deerskin flogger.   While you're starting to learn, it can be a satisfying thump toy that won't harm if your aim is not perfect;  as you progress, it's always a great scene starter/sensual toy.   This is the piece to invest money on at this point - check out http://www.detailstoys.com/low_inten_floggers.html for reasonably priced and well made deerskin floggers - a medium length tail is listed at $75, but you should also consider a double thick tail at $110.   I have a lot of DeTails floggers and they are well constructed and well priced.

Find yourself a local tack shop and peruse their selection of riding crops.  I don't much care for the cheap crops with narrow slappers (the leather or plastic piece at the tip), but for a few dollars more you can get a good one with a wide slapper.  Keep in mind that riding crops can be rather intense toys to use.

From your local dollar store:  clothespins, candles, GummiCuffs (apparently), a rabbit fur, a sleep mask (read:  blindfold), boxes with snap on lids to keep some of the smaller stuff in.

You probably want to get yourself a bag to keep everything in.  If you're lucky enough to have a Wilson's Leather Outlet store near you, I've found them to be a great source to get affordable leather duffel bags - I got a lovely one for about $20 recently.  Wilson's also has good clearance sales.  Places like TJMaxx and Marshalls also often have good bargains on bags.

At this point, you might want to add a paddle or leather slapper to your collection.   I always recommend www.thelondontanners.com as well priced and durable.

Basically, "that will get you started".   Add to it pieces that fit your personal interests as you go along - another flogger, leather cuffs, etc.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me on the other side.

Don't forget a necessary component in your toy bag: A basic first aid kit plus a pair of quality bandage scissors (they cut rope too!)

Well, let's see...i'll go by the things in Your profile.

Massage (getting and giving): whichever oils/lotions You prefer to use on others, and whichever oils/lotions You like used on You. Some people are great at giving massages, but don't have things handy.

Ass play: Lube! Definitely need that. Other things for the ass will have to be bought for an individual for safety's sake (basic butt plug, anal beads, etc)

Blindfolds: Definitely get a really good blindfold. The kind with a soft lining on the inside, and that stands back off the eyes.

Bondage: Depends on the kind of bondage. Leather bondage, get a basic pair of cuffs (ankle and wrist). These always come in handy. You can also get leather strips from Tandy Leather that are good for leather bondage (i've been bound at the wrists with them; had no problems). Chains or leather straps that connect to the cuffs are also important. Rope bondage, get a few different kinds of rope. If You're also into abrassive play, get some sisal rope. Someone used that on me, and just the scratchiness of it added to the pleasure of the scene a lot.

Fisting: Again, LOTS of lube ;)

Gags: If You aren't sure what gag is for You, start with cloth gags made out of long strips of fabric. They work well, and look great. Then, when You decide which gag You like best, get that one, too.

Hope that gives you some ideas!

i  sell products at home shows. (like an avon lady except instead of ding dong its avon calling- i am more of dong dong- the twisted toy rep)   i have most of the major makers, as do many of the home show ladies.

The benefits of sales person like myself are: Many items are all sales final,  most states do not allow returns, exchanges and so on (thank heavens) so you can see the item (or a sample) before you purchase.
You can ask questions such as how to clean and care for the various products and so much more.
You can test the products  for speed, intensity, movement and so on without use.

Look through your local paper and see if there are any door to door sales people in your area. Find out if they sell BDSM and in particular the items you may want to purchase. (i do not carry any Electrics Play simply due to the increased cost of insurance for TENS, WANDS and such items- yet i do have sites i can refer P/people to.......)
