Was just wondering, have any submissives/slaves ever bought or ordered their own collars for any reason? Perhaps to show your devotion in your own way? Or in a long distance relationship where you couldn't go collar shopping with your Dominant/Master/Mistress?

When I refer to collars, I mean anything showing you as His/Hers (i.e. collar, day collar, slave bracelets, or in my case, personalised dog-tags [the army-style ones]).

I purchased a pair of Army-style dog tags. On one had my name, and Property Of (my Master's name), the date I was collared as His, and... something else. The other one had lyrics to a song that I felt quite appropriate. I did this on my own, to show my deviotion to Him. They were mostly a secret to me, I rarely wore them outside of my shirt. It was my own little way of feeling close to Him. He still doesn't know I did this (we are not together in this aspect at the moment). It's kind of like my special little secret.

Has anyone else done anything like this? Secretive, with permission, or on your own but with your Dominant/Master/Mistress knowing after the fact?

I have not bought my own collar. I have had the experience of walking past dog collars in a pet store a time or two and thinking bad thoughts. I do not really want a collar around my neck unless he puts it there, but that is just me.

I can completely understand that, which is why I broadened my use of the word collar to also use bracelets, necklaces, dog-tags, etc. I couldn't've bought my own collar, but like I said, decided to buy the dog-tags, not a collar but more a symbol of my love and devotion for Him. I have always been the one who refuses to even put my collar on or take it off myself.

Edited to add: I understand a formal collar is far more significant, and in most cases should be the Dominant/Master/Mistress' choosing. Again, in this post, I am meaning more the informal collars and similar items.

I had one prospective pet who decided to impress me by ordering a collar to have to present to me, so that should I decide to collar him it would be there.  He never got to wear it.
I am consdering having Angel find himself one and order it, because he is so hard to fit things to that its becoming more work than its worth. He has the formal collar I put on him when I claimed him, but nothing for everyday wear.  I am probably gingto allow him to select his own item (whatever that might be) and then just ersonalize it once he has it.

My Master chose and purchased my collar, although he asked for my thoughts on some of the ones he was considering.  I begged to be his slave, and for his collar.  To have gone and purchased my own would have been presumptuous in my situation.

I consider his collar, his marking by tattoo, and any other sign of his ownership to be a privilege to wear, coming from him.  I do, however, have things on my desk at work that remind me of him.  I also have some of his clothes at my house (I do not live with him) and I sometimes sleep in them.

Was it because he bought it that he never got to wear it or simply the relationship didn't work out? Or, should I ask if the relationship didn't work out partly because of the collar?

Ah... if only He had been in state long enough for me to steal His DCU jacket... -swoons-

LOL.  I love it when he leaves me something he has worn - it smells like him and I swear I get high off it just inhaling it.  Some girls sleep with teddybears - I sleep with a wardrobe...hahaha.

The relationship didnt work out partly becasue he had the audacity and the ego to believe that on a first meeting I would be tempted to collar him becasue he was that damn good. I had never collared anyone before, never had anyone I believed merited that sort fo commitment from me.  And for him to have a backup plan to make sure he was prepared if he was my first rubbed me the wrong way.
I already owned a collar, one I fell in love with and had panned on putting around the neck of the one I chose to keep eventally. I hadnt thoght to even bring it with me on a first meet with this boy.
Angel wears it now.

I never had a chance to steal anything out of His warddrobe, as my eye was on the DCU jacket and it was in storage halfway across the country... This is partly why I bought the dog tags. So I could feel close to Him somehow. I used to sleep holding them in my hand.

It's even better when it smells like them!

Ah, see now a first meeting... that's a whole different story! I had collars from my "goth" days, but they were never anything special to me. I would prefer my Master to pick out my "official" collar, but sometimes I will buy little tokens to remind me of Him. Like the dog tags. And that was only after an established relationship. We just never got a collar because He left the state before my consideration was up (He was Army, and I hadn't earned a full collar until after He left). So the dog tags were sort of my placeholder.

Does that make sense or do I just sound like I'm trying to defend myself?

To me it just seems as though you found something to help you connect with him and feel closer to him in his absence.  That's different than how I first understood your OP, which was whether or not anyone has just gone out and collared themselves on behalf of their owners.

I wanted to wear something that reminded me of Daddy all the time, I was thinking of my neopream cuffs, but at the time volunteering with kids I knew that would NOT fly, nor are cuffs 24/7 practical, so with his permission I hunted down a ring to wear. I found a love knot that said faith and purity on either side and the knot said love. I never take it off unless I am using selson blue, because sb will tarnish my ring.

Thank you! Sometimes I have trouble saying what I mean.

Like owned said, it seems like you just want a reminder of him.  I, too, sleep with a wardrobe at times.  I asked Him for something of His that I could sleep in when I was feeling particularly lonely (we don't live together either).

*Fast reply*

I bought my collar myself off eBay, along with a padlock heart chain necklace to wear for "dressy" occasions. I showed them to Him before I bid on them, and He was happy for me to get them. My everyday collar is a snake chain choker which doesn't look out of place in vanilla situations (pic in profile if you're interested).

We haven't had a formal collaring, but we got married nearly a month ago so I have a wedding ring too. He paid for that
I wanted to have a symbol of our D/s relationship as well as the wedding ring.

katzschen - I bought a slave bracelet for myself to wear.  When I got it I asked Him to put it on me.  I have not taken it off in over a year, aside from the time that I had to send it back to get the clasp repaired.

ownedgirlie - I know how you feel, there is nothing better to sleep in than something that smells like them.  There is something very intoxicating and comforting about it.
