Minimum Wage Increase = Cost of Living Increase + McDonalds & Wall Mart Stock Price Surge.  Just where do you think all that extra spending money ends up going?

On the bright side, it'll funnel more sales tax dollars into the states.  It's not like the minimum wagers are going to be re-investing that extra cash into their stock portfolios.

Well..... the best thing I've heard so far was that they are moving to introduce legislation to strip the pensions away--at a federal level--from any politician convicted of a felony while in office. It's very noble but should have been accomplished a long time ago

Other than that....I won't be happy until something like the Hatfield-McGovern Amendment is proposed and then enacted.

Companies will absorb some of it. IMO- energy is a huge cost of doing biz as is insurance.

7.25 an hour = seems abit high.... yet, ive heard of mechanics and truckers working for $7 an hour!!

Minimum wage is still not a living wage. A living wage would be between 10 and 14 dollars depending on where one lives.

Call me crazy, but I believe that a person should be able to support themselves and a small family if they work 40 hours a week. That is not possible on minimum wage. For those who think that it would drive the price of things up, how do companies expect their employees to buy their merchandise if they do not pay them a living wage?

It won't drive the price of things up, because there are millions of people in China, India, and the rest of the developing world who will work 10-hour days for less than many folks in the U.S. spend on their morning coffee. They're building all the actual "things" nowadays.

I will note here the difficulty in keeping ends together, financially, even if two people are working 40 hours weeks at $7.85/hour. That's my mom and stepdad's situation and they live in Florida, where sales tax averages just over 7% and the price of gas is their biggest expense - it's a 45 minute ride each way to work, but they have to make four trips total since they have one car and work different shifts. Rent on the trailer is $500, the power bill is way too high, and they have to keep time on their prepaid cell phones.

My only goal in life is to be more financially stable than them, having dealt with power being turned off because they couldn't pay, not much in the way of food for a day or so, and just seeing how worn out their work gets them.
