Not sure about that second one.

MC, that second one you had on a few weeks ago and it's still as shite as it was then.

I was wondering that, I had vague recollections. You should take off your xenophobic ears and put on some continental friendly ones, put away the bitter and pour yourself a absinthe. Les Negresse Verte are a superb band!

Why would you assume I'm being xenophobic because I think one of the links you posted is shite? Sounds a strange link to make on your part. Think about it, is there nothing on this planet you think is shite? and if so, does it make you xenophobic? You need to start sticking to the point for us have to have a decent convo MC. Just because I think you're music is shite.......don't take it as anything more than meaning I feel I can speak freely in your company.

meatcleaver -> RE: Best Mix of 2006 (1/12/2007 1:29:29 PM)

I said 'xenophobic ears' as in train your ears to listen to a wider variety of noise.

As for my music being shite, its better than the regurgitated pap of the Libertines etc. it's all been done before and better.

You're probably way too old for most of this. [;)][;)]

That's what it's all about MC, passing opinions. You're one of the few people on here who can give an opinion and take an opinion without it being the end of the world.

By the way, I didn't know it was your music, Pierre.

You're not wrong about the age..........I'm drifting towards 35 then 40 then death. But, I'll get a few bands in between now and then.

Anyway, all of them sounded like Rocky to me...............I was waiting for Apollo Creed to come in and start swinging a few punches. caitlyn, culturally we're so far apart.

American rock is full of self-pity.............this is what it sounded like to me:

"You picked me up from school,
You attended all my sporting functions,
You bought me a car,
Gave me use of a credit card,
but how can I feel pain,
how can I feel pain,
when you're being so supporrtivvvvvve"

British music is full of energy and that's where we have the edge over you.

Another thing, tell me about your drinking and country music problem.

I like your 70's stuff. Pink Floyd and Supertramp are two of my favs. Supertramp is like a new band to me, since I heard it for the first time about three months ago.

I think that's funny because I just recently fell in love with Supertramp as well.

My background is 50s and early 60s, with a smattering of 70s due to my mothers influence, and 90s and up for my own listening.  I regularly stun my 43 yo partner with my 50s music know-how.  The 80s are a wasteland for me.

My partner has taken it upon himself to give me a proper education of the 70s as well as continually trying to prove that the 80s weren't so bad in some ways.

As for why all the pop- well it is a mix of 06 and only room for 22 songs.  He wanted to put songs that would be iconic to the year, that, even if you don't like all of the songs, you could hear it and be taken back to that year.  Being fairly popular or mainstream lends itself to that as well.

Plus I think it's good music (except for 16).

caitlyn -> RE: Best Mix of 2006 (1/12/2007 3:06:37 PM)

All your newer musicians look gay ... not that you can really tell with British men. [;)]

As for the other ... what do you want to know? Country music doesn't work as well with booze as Demerol, but isn't quite so harmful.

Maybe this works better for you ... it's kind of old too:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwI9aOmYf4M

Not my favorite kind of music ... but it's totally anti-American, and the guy seriously hurts that guitar.

Funny you should say that but an American bloke who writes for The Guardian said in an article a few years ago when he landed in Britain for the first time.............."I was surprised how much like it looked like the US, it looked remarkably similar apart from all the men looked gay and they were all wearing 1980s sneakers". True.

There's a cultural difference here. The Americans consider a gay man to be someone who is open with his feelings and doesn't conform to the macho stereotype man whereas to me your front men in those links were trying too hard to appear macho - I'll wager 50% of them are gay. The thing is caitlyn, we're not like all this bollocks where you have to conform to society's norms of what scoiety says a man should be. We're individuals [;)] and fuck the labels, who cares if someone is straight, gay or bi..........why should it be an issue?

I'm just thinking empty bottles, tears, lying around on the floor and "the wife has ran off with the bloke next door and the dog is dead" blasting out of the music system"...you tell me.

caitlyn -> RE: Best Mix of 2006 (1/12/2007 3:18:58 PM)

Yeah ... the dominant male here has something like 11,000 (I kid you not), records, cassettes and CD's. They listened to some good stuff in the 70's. I'm not getting the 80's so much ... the new wave just sucks if you ask me, and some hair bands are alright if they have a serious musician.

My favorite game is to take an old band and play it for my friends as some "new" music I found. [;)]

caitlyn -> RE: Best Mix of 2006 (1/12/2007 3:24:01 PM)

It was a joke ... I've been to your country, and loved every minute of it (except as previously noted, your hotels are roughly on par with a "no-tell motel" here in the United States.

We need that sad music, don't you know ... since, as the whole fucking legion of you on this site are quick to point out, we live in the shit country of the Earth. [;)]

If you can't take a bit, don't give it [;)]

Just a bit of crack caitlyn, nothing serious. Never been to the US, probably never will get there. I've no problem with Americans.........only US foreign policy. You seem a decent enough bunch.

caitlyn -> RE: Best Mix of 2006 (1/12/2007 3:46:14 PM)

I took it fine. [:D]

Lets try this one ... combines New Zealand (Bic Runga) and Minnesota (Semisonic).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8RU2WNK4eU

This should be happy enough for you. [;)]

NorthernGent -> RE: Best Mix of 2006 (1/12/2007 3:56:16 PM)

caitlyn, I like melody, the one above......not for me.

Try this, Aussie band......Youth Group...shit name for a band but good first album. Spot on live as well.

Hey, caitlyn, try this, same band, quality issue.

caitlyn -> RE: Best Mix of 2006 (1/12/2007 4:03:50 PM)

They're pretty popular here. A little too tame for me. I tend to go for harder stuff.

No love for Mastodon? They're the best live group I've seen in a while. Very serious musicians. I used to hate metal ... but find it's my thing lately.

caitlyn -> RE: Best Mix of 2006 (1/12/2007 4:07:24 PM)

See ... I'm down with this older band. I like anyone that can get that serious with a guitar.

NorthernGent -> RE: Best Mix of 2006 (1/12/2007 4:11:54 PM)

Never heard of them....put a link up and let's have a listen.

caitlyn -> RE: Best Mix of 2006 (1/12/2007 4:17:58 PM)

They were the last band in my first list. You will probably hate them ... they are REALLY loud.

BUT ... I've been to a lot of concerts in the last few years, and these guys were absolutely the best musicians I've eard. Believe it or not, the homeless looking guy with the scruffy beard was a child prodigy as a pianist. Pretty amazing, considering what he does now.
