This is just a general observation:
The term "stratigic hamlit" seems similar to what the administration wants to do in Iraq with the reinforcing of this or that town.  Now it did not work in Viet Nam but perhaps it will work in Iraq.  Wastemorland  said he only needed another 50,000 troops to finish mopping up in Viet Nam and was unsuccessful with another 500,000 but then perhaps it will work in Iraq.  We will teach the army of South Viet Nam to protect them selves from the dirty commies...well that did not work but perhaps it will work in Iraq.  If we loose Viet Nam to the commies the whole of south east asia will fall to the commies...now Col. Sanders and Big macs abound in Viet Nam...
I dunno but from the perspective of 60+ years and a few wars it seems sooooo similar.
Same mud different day....
The only reason any one starts a war is so they can go fuck their victims women and take their dope.  All the rhetoric about "supporting the toops" "national honor" "world opinion" is just so much crap ...the world sees us as a bunch of facist thugs whos only goal is to rip off whom ever we can.

I agree with all except the quote I highlighted.

In my opinion, wars are motivated by prejudice and/or greed, and typically started to exploit the natural resources of other countries, and/or to maintain the status quo, and/or expand one's borders.

While I cannot remember any of the relevant sources off the top of my head, there has been a lot of research into the aphrodisiac qualities of life during wartime.

Fucking the victims women may not be at the top of the list of reasons people go to war, it certainly works out that way in the end, as it were.

And Im not sure we started the war in Iraq to get Iraqi "dope," which in that part of teh world is Qat or Kat, a leafy branch plant which is chewed to give the user marijuana like euphoria, endless conversational ability, energy, and eventually causes insomnia and mental changes similar to mild paranoid for a few hours.  I dont see it being sold near churches and schools in the United States.

Although if "dope" is a euphemism for "stuff," we did start this war to get Iraq's oil.

What's your problem with Howard Zinn?

You ever READ People's History?

Talk about a downer! It's so depressing.

I Thought 'Mission Accomplished' meant that the US won. Why are they having so much trouble 'occuping' the country. Saddam et al are dead; so wasn't the humanitarian invasion to free Iraq of their ruthless dictator accomplished? Didn't the capture and execution of Saddam put an end to the terrorist? So, how come the US is sending in more troops, rather than 'pulling out'? Mission Accomplished.

why did we even bother sending them at all...could have just sent in an air strike and been done with it...just bomb the hell out of the country. afterall, bin ladin probably isn't even any where near that country now anyway. America was way to slow in their response. now, it's all a waste of time, money and people.

michaelofgeorgia:
The reason we did not "just bomb the hell out of the country"  Is because if that was all we did then Bush & co. could not rip off the american taxpayer for rebuilding it and could not rip off the  Iraquie oil resources.
A bully just beats people up for the fun of beating them up.  A thug beats people up so he can rip them off.
I hope this has been helpful in clarifying this point.

Having"been there done that"with regards to the whole military, combat thing,I can say...."supporting the ones who are willing to walk everyday into a certain hell,on the behalf of faces we shall never see, embraces we shall never know, and ideals which are not necessarily our own"is paramount.I have friends now who are in Iraq, and they tend to drive my thinking more than  any mass media.tow have mentioned medicine manufacturing plants and weapons plants side by side, connected underground by tubes you can drive a small truck through.Only got 1 mention in the press though.I suppose thats what happens when you have so many willing to subject themselves to certain scrutiny from their deity, rather than print, speak or other-wise communicate facts based upon pre-judicial imprints.Oh well,I`ll keep digging my moat and building my guard towers......

Personally..... I like and agree with many of Howard Zinn's writings. But the one problem I've always had with him after listening to an NPR interview, is his denial that the globalists’ are capable enough that they could use the Hegelian Dialectic to manipulate the masses.

Question: How do you know when a neocon has entered your home without a search warrant?

Answer:  You come home and find that your heating system has been converted-over to use oil.

I agree it was an analogy, thompsonx.

Just reminded me of some of the research I did while I was working on my thesis in college.
