Pardon my ignorance, but is vampirism very popular among the community, particularly the Mistresses?  If so, could you maybe elaborate on personal experiences?  It seems to me that it would require more imagination than the average fetish.  Along the same lines, does anyone enjoy having their partner play dead?  I ask because people have told me I have vampire-like qualities, and I've kind of grown into it.

You must be kidding.

I don't have a necrophilia fetish, but I am a Vampire. I have no idea how popular it is in the community...and don't really care. It's popularity, or lack thereof, doesn't change who I am.

What specifically are you wanting to ask?

yes, death fetishism is quite common and we see it a lot at the Dungon....fetishim towards vampires or vampiric activities is less so, tho blood play and ppl in the scene who subscribe to the 'ethics' of the vampire lifesyle are also common...in a place like NYC there are clubs and parties that cater to this..elsewhere I am sure it can be found, but somewhat less in the open....

What do they mean by "vampire-like qualities?"
I too have no idea who is "into" being a vampyre, nor do I care. And I don't consider my being Vampyre as a fetish, it is only who I am.  I was Vampyre even when I wasn't a Mistress.

I personally find the icon of the vampire very hot and am working (slowly) on a collection of erotic vampire short stories.

But I do not consider myself a vampire. They have their own communities and subcultures.

V.M. Johnson, one of the most respected members of the leather community has a book about her experiences in this vampire community. You might want to check it out:

MasterFireMaam, I'm not really looking for specifics, I just want to get a feel for what people enjoy in Vampirism and how serious they are about it.  I understand you don't care about what others think, but aren't you inclined to find other Vampires like yourself?  Were you initiated or was it an independent self-realization, if you don't mind me asking?

Lady Lupine, in fact the only real exposure I've had is from going to Club Hell in Providence years ago.  I'd definitely like to learn more about the ethics of vampirism though.  The blood play sounds appealing.

PsyVamp, by Vampire-like qualities I mean paleness, sharp teeth, affinity towards darkness, romanticism, sense of tranquility, perhaps alienation.  Those are the things I see in myself that I would attribute to Vampirism.

Now, PsyVamp is Vampyre above the common associations (fetishes, etc.), while TammyJo calls it an icon, and relates it to eroticism.  Not to imply any disrespect here, but the comparison/contrast of views is interesting.

The entire concept; biological, cultural, literary; is fascinating to me.  I appreciate all your responses (even you LadyIce).  I'd be interested to hear anything else you'd be willing to share.

This certainly is an interesting topic...and I for one would be interested in reading more about it...I seem to be facinated with more basic instinct rather than vamparism...but perhaps the two go together?

Not sure if it's the same thing but I once had a g/f who would "play unconcious" occassionally.  If she was in the mood and I gave her a playful tap, she'd fall to the floor (or the bed or the sofa, wherever W/we may have been) and pretended to be completely unconcious, allowing Me to do whatever I wanted to her.  Not that I didn't anyway but it sure was a lot of fun.
