Einstein Fish Puzzle By Albert Einstein (maybe)

http://www.coudal.com/thefish.php

This brainteaser, reportedly written by Einstein is difficult and Einstein said that 98% of the people in the world could not figure it out. Which percentage are you in?

I'm going to say its the German who owns the fish

Norwegian has the cats
Brit has the horses
Swede has the dog
Dane has the birds

Am I right?

For someone obviously so intelligent, I'm a bit thick after all it seems!

There's a click link to the answer LOL!

Glad to say I worked it out correctly though! (I can prove it by the way too - Excel is a wonderful thing!)

<sings> "I am, clev-er-er than you lot!"

the one problem i see in how this was posted is that, maybe you should have copied and pasted the questions first, let people guess their answers and individually emailed them the answers if they were wrong...just an observation

Guessing has nothing to do with it though Michael (if thats what you meant?)

There's enough information in the clues to work it out OK. The only bit I couldnt work out was who lives next door to who as the Brit has to be next to the Norwegian but also in the centre house the way I did it.

We all have our moments - don't worry, your intelligence is obvious to the rest of us :-D

Hints:
1. The Brit lives in the red house.
2. The Swede keeps dogs as pets.
3. The Dane drinks tea.
4. The green house is on the left of the white house.
5. The green house owner drinks coffee.
6. The person who smokes Pall Malls keeps birds.
7. The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhills.
8. The man living in the house right in the center drinks milk.
9. The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats.
10. The Norwegian lives in the first house.
11. The man who keeps horses lives next to the one who smokes Dunhills.
12. The owner who smokes Bluemasters drinks beer.
13. The German smokes Princes.
14. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
15. The man who smokes Blends has a neighbor who drinks water.

There are no tricks, pure logic will get you the correct answer. And yes, there is enough information to arrive at the one and only correct answer.
If you get the correct answer, congratulations, you are one of the exclusive group of 121,348,731 people in the world who can.

I came up with the German.
German, green house, coffee, Princes and fish
Norwegian, yellow house, water, Dunhills and cats
Dane, blue house, tea, Blends and horses
Brit, red house, milk, Pall Malls and birds
Swede, white house, beer, Bluemasters and dogs.

Now I have to go and check if I'm right.

The order of the houses is yellow, blue, red, green and white.

I had almost the same, though I guess I gave up once I knew the German had the fish!

Hint to anyone still trying it - work out the Norwegian's preferences first - the rest you can then deduce.

I have serious doubts that only two percent of the population can solve this – namely because I solved it!  This is a case of simple but not easy.  I made a five by five grid, labeled the left side with color, nationality, etc., then went about filling in the blanks. Got stuck in a few places but then you have those "aha!" moments that make it all fall into place.

More or less how I did it too, Marc. Except I started with the nationalities across the top row, and the far left column on the Excel as the categories.

Then I put in what I knew from some of the clues, then filled the other boxes with the possible variables. Then with the other clues, steadily reduced the variables in each box.

And, by the way - welcome to the 2% club - pretty exclusive with only 3 members!
