Is it REALLY better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all? That's what the Bard wants us to believe. What do YOU think? [:D]

Who knows about better, but it's easier. I know over the last ten or so years, i've often wished that i cold never have loved at all; but in my saner days, i'd not give up any of the memories of the one's past. You know the song "The Dance"? " I could have missed the pain, but then I'd have missed the dance." The pain of loss is the price we pay to dance. So, make every dance count. Give yourself without reservation to the music, love with every fiber of your being. Close your eyes and jump off the cliff and trust that the love will make you fly. If it ends, know you have been part of something amazing that not everyone finds in a single lifetime. Just my opinion anyway. MsOpal

The Dance, It for me sums it up perfectly. We are all here to eventually die. Most people I know how have died felt pain. We feel pain everyday. When I was a kid learning to ride a bike my parents would have known that I would fall and skin a knee, twist an ankle etc. I am glad they "let me dance." In life you will often get hurt to learn or experience something new. Whether an activity, sport, or love. I would rather risk the hurt and live. For me there is no doubt about it. Let me dance, I will live with the pain. J

MsOpal whenever i'm asked to sing that song, i get a little misty... thinking back on all the things that make me cry, or at least a little misty; i'm wondering if i'm a bit too sensitive

No I don't think so, I get a little misty to, and I am supposedly in a "tough guy" type job. "Standing outside the fire" also says a lot, "life is not worth living if you're standing outside the fire". Both of those songs really mean something to me and I am not really a big country fan. I work in job where I have lost friends, and the rest of us carry on. Live life.... so you get a few bumps and bruises along the way. J

I think it is. My own personal thoughts on the matter are that while it may hurt at the time we learn something from each person we love and those that are worth the love that you put forth teach you something in the process. Whether that be about yourself, about themselves, about others, about love or even how it feels to be loved you take something from each person you love and I believe that each person you put that emotion into takes a piece of something from you as well.

Yes, I think it is. Experiencing love I think, is a life-enriching experience in itself, provided one can see the great of good in it, and separate it from the bad (if there was some bad, or it ended badly). And if part of it was a bad experience, well - let us not forget that probably affected two people, not just one, as well. Two people can find joy, as well as pain and displeasure. - Susan

I would rather have the memories of the people I have lost than not. I think its personal preference personally. It’s hard though trying not to compare what you have to what you had; you can wish your life away like that.
