I'm with a Dom who is a self-proclaimed hillbilly, working class dude. I grew up "white collar" but have always dated "blue collar-type" men. I have intense respect for people that create a successful life that wasn't handed to them (whatever class they are). I grew up with people not having to do crap to live a luxurious life, and I had no respect for that. Much of what I saw was a lot of materialism being more important than caring for others, building character and working hard.

Don't get too excited about the practice.. ever hear of  "slumming"?

Understandable.  I was on a dock watching some guys working from boats in Costa Rica recently.  They looked really rough and pretty appealing ... they also made me want to learn Spanish!

But white collar brings to mind a certain stereotype.  "Systems analyst" means white collar.  But if he has long hair and drives a Harley, white collar isn't what springs to mind. [:)]

He's a former executive now with his own blue collared construction business. He's got more degrees than I do and calloused hands. But from the time I was in college and just getting interested in boys over books, I have preferred a man who can fix things.

Most problems in life are small things, the dryer making a weird noise, the car headlight is out. Knowing that I can turn all these small worries over to him makes me feel safer. I'm spared a lot of difficulty and expenditure. The car doesn't sit in the shop for three days until they can look at it for $75 an hour, he buys a $12 bulb and it's fixed in minutes.

Having a life free of small problems makes me feel as though I don't have any problems. And since he's highly educated I can brainstorm with him over the big problems also. Plus he's got great biceps! (I'm shallow like that).

Artist/Band: Trace Adkins
Lyrics for Song: Ladies Love Country Boys
(This is for all you sophisticated ladies out there)

She grew up in the city in a little subdivision,
Her daddy wore a tie, Momma never fried a chicken,
Ballet, Straight A’s, Most likely to succeed

They bought her a car after graduation
Sent her down south for some higher education
Put her on the fast track to a law degree

Now she’s comin home to visit
holdin the hand
Of a wild-eyed boy
with a farmer’s tan

And shes ridin in the middle of his pickup truck
Blarin Charlie Daniels yellin, “Turn it up!”
They raised her up a lady
but there’s one thing they couldn’t avoid
Ladies love country boys

(You know its true)

Yeah, you know momma’s and daddy’s want better for their daughters
Hope they’ll settle down with a doctor or a lawyer
In their uptown, ball gown, hand-me-down royalty

They never understand
why their princess falls
For some camouflage britches
and a southern boy drawl

Or why she’s ridin in the middle of a pickup truck
Blarin Hank Jr. yellin, “Turn it up!”
They raised her up a lady
but there’s one thing they couldn’t avoid
Ladies love country boys

(oooh, get country with it)

You can train ‘em
You can try to teach ‘em right from wrong
But it’s still gonna turn ‘em on

When they go ridin in the middle of a pickup truck
Blarin Lynyrd Skynyrd yellin, “Turn it up!”
You can raise her up a lady
but there’s one thing you jus can’t avoid
Ladies love country boys

They love us country boys
Ooooooh yeah
It's that country thing you know

okay, country music lyrics aside... my Owner and husband is a study in opposites. He's as country as country gets, literally being an 'Okie from Muskogee,' and can drawl and talk livestock with the best of them. He's worked a honey wagon, oil patch, or slaughterhouse. His knuckles are broken from bar fights, and his shoulders are as broad as the Kansas plains.  To the first glance, in his Wranglers, plaid flannel, and Sooner's ball cap, he's a rough, redneck blue collar boy with a bigass dirty ole truck.

However.... he's also a educated, bilingual, extremely skilled, smooth-talking, highest-level technical, white collar kind of guy, working for an international company where he interacts seamlessly with people of all levels of education and culture worldwide.

::naughty grin:: i'm spoiled rotten - I get the best of both worlds.  :)  Though, oddly, I respond very sexually and submissively to him when he's topping me wearing a pair of Feldini slacks and a crisply starched linen shirt, smelling divinely of Tommy cologne...

Do opposites attract? Hell yes. :)

The only thing I would like to add is that all too frequently white collar types don't get to leave their work at the office, they need to bring work home, carry a cell phone at all times, plus they don't work 8 hours and leave. Frequently they have to go in early and stay late, travel etc. When work preys on your mind all the time, you don't have time to focus on your partner and when you know your time isn't your own you can't volunteer to coach Little League.

And it's real nice to know someone can put you first which doesn't happen when you're married to your job.

AAkasha -> RE: White Collar Women (1/14/2007 7:18:36 PM)

I'm a white collar woman and I married a "no collar" man.  Well, except for the leather bondage collar.
He doesn't have a career.
Except pleasing me!
