I'd really like to do more work from home, and already plan to start selling Avon again and get my website/shop up and running. I've sold a few things on ebay, but don't find it to be the most profitable venture. Listing and PayPal fees are insane.

So, I was wondering if anybody knew of any more *good* ways to earn money from home, or mostly home.

And I do mean things that actually *work*, not those bullshit get rich quick schemes. Preferably something you have done or know somebody who does them. Anything to earn extra cash, whether sporadic or regular.
And if anybody knows of the surveys that actually DO pay you to take them, let me know, please? I know some do, my mom does them, but they're near impossible to find.

I read an article recently which discussed how a lot of companies are hiring stay at home mom's on contract - they work from home part or full time, fully set up at home by the company, employed by the company.  My cousin does this - she does sales and marketing out of her home, part time.  The company set her up with DSL and faxing, pays her phone bill, and she's set.  She benefits by working without dealing with the struggles of her own business, and the company benefits by not paying for overhead costs, such as office space, and benefits.  I'd suggest calling employment agencies and asking them about this kind of work.  I've worked from home before and really enjoyed it.  The problem I had with it was seperating "home life" from "work life."  After all, the office is always there, and it was hard for me to break away at night and weekends.

Not breaking away wouldn't be too much of a big deal for me. It's not like I have a life lol. I'll definitely check in to this though, thanks. =^-^=

I hate work from home. After all, after work, I like getting away from work and going somewheres. If and when you work from home, where is your place of peace away from work? It's no longer home.

Anyways, most at home jobs, include phone sex, online/phone customer service for a company, medical transcriptionist, massage therapy, and the providing of "other services" to those who come and "meet you." Various photographers and florist are known to work at home as well. There's also baby sitting. Other than that, people are now making money by downloading peoples CD's on to there IPODS. Many people are not able to find the time to put there CD collection onto there IPOD and would rather pay someone to do it for them. It's a consideration.

Hope these ideas help.

A lot of publishers hire freelance readers, editors, copy editors and copywriters.  Some literary agents also hire freelance readers and editors.  Though there's probably no chance of getting a freelance gig without experience in the industry (or, for copywriting, maybe at least experience in marketing or advertising).

Medical transcription is a reputable job.  However you will have to take classes in order to get the job in the first place.

I know a few people that do phone sex for a decent living at home.  It's not such a bad gig, and I am thinking about doing it myself for a bit of extra money here and there.  I am not sure I could face that phone everyday doing that, but am trying to keep an open mind.

If you like kids, babysitting.  Moms are always looking for good babysitters for their kids, especially during the summer months and vacation weeks when the schools and day care centers close.  Some of the women I work with would kill for a good sitter during the summer.  They pay tons of money for expensive day camps or away camps or use up their vacation time to stay home with them.

Thanks for all the good suggestions. I've been meaning to put an ad up on craigslist for babysitting, or at least put a flyer up in the apartment complex, but have had computer issues.

Does anyone do paid surveys that actually pay? I know they're out there somewhere.

One of my friends, who I met on Myspace and who is a lifestyle Mistress, is also a phone sex operator for a company where she basically runs her own business.  She has a few websites, is on Myspace, does mp3's, and makes a fairly good living.  She has said that I have a great voice but I really don't see myself doing that kind of work.

I'm in the process myself of getting a business started from home helping local health care providers verify their daily appointments via telephone.  While I haven't actually started doing it yet, I am working through all the details to get it up and running but I am taking it slow because I want to get it right.  I'm also avialable to build websites for anyone who wants help.  End of commercial.   :-)

I do consulting and surveys are part from time to time.  They pay incredibly well but even for that you need a license.

I manage an external businesses from home..but it would take a lot of being away from home to set it up to a point where you don't have to "be there"..so would be a long term goal to work towards.

I'm also a massage therapist and take clients at home and do outcalls so I'm only away from home for an hour or two at a time.

I had a job where I worked from home.

I wore a pager.  I had to be available 24/7 in case a customer called.

I had 15 trouble calls in 18 months.

I call it my year and a half off.

this is the best story done on working from at home

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/TakeControl/story?id=2733005&page=1

when Good Morning America did a week long piece on working from at home. Page two of the article lists reputable companies that hire people who work from home. To work from home, especially doing the phone work you need a strong will. You get hung up on alot and it takes an investment of time before you can achieve the better hourly wages. If you plan on doing one of the phone jobs, you usually need high speed internet access and a separate phone line that is used only for work. (non cell)

Babysitting really depends on where you live, up north where windy is you can make decent money. Where I live in Florida the going rate is $75.00 -$90.00 a week for full time babysitting. So you are basically making a dollar an hour. Plus in most cases in order to advertise you need to be licensed and carry insurance, child proof your home, etc.

Another really great website is wahm.com , everything is seperated in categories and there is a board the has all the latest work from at home opportunites.

good luck in your new venture!

Well, I did surveys from home before. Calling and taking the data and then e-mailing it in. It didn't pay that good but I could do it in my underwear. LOL.

I do currently sell on ebay, the whole thing about ebay is you have to find a good consistant source for good consistant selling product. And that's easier said than done. That's about it. The fees aren't any worse than retail. But you said you already tried ebay. So, no help there I guess.
