I've been sick for a week with a head cold. No other symptoms other than the congestion and the lime green crap coming up and a sore throat. Well once in a while when I call somestuff up there's streaks of blood in it, sometimes in the nasal stuff too.

I tried looking up blood in the phlegm and get nothing. I am spelling it right yes, cause my search engion will tell you the correct spelling if it's not.
I asked my dad and he said not to be worried that's normal. However I've never in all the times I have had a cold before seen streaks of it nor evidence of blood in anything I produced.

If there is a blood from blowing the nose, sometimes that happens if you are blowing your nose alot during a cold.

However, coughing up blood-streaked phlegm from the lungs would concern me.  I'd go to the doc.

Try looking up mucus or upper respiratory infection

Hi Feline,
The dry air inside can cause this to happen.I dont even have a cold and My nose is a wreck. Its just from the cold air to warm air, also makes Me have an Asthma attack,I have the inhaler ready and as I go in the house I hit off it.

If you are having a LOT of blood coughing up this can be a sign of an infection/pneumonia.I would get to a Doc soon is you have lots of bloody pleghm.

BTW...did the scalp treatment work?I know that was a long time ago...never did see if you had succuss.

It depends on where the blood is coming from. If it is from a nose bleed (which can be caused by any number of things including a head cold or the flu) it isn't that serious unless the nose doesn't stop bleeding. However if it is coming from the stomach or lungs, it may be a much more serious issue.

Bronchitis or pneumonia can cause blood vessels in the lungs to burst.

So you many want to have a doctor check it out to rule out the more serious problems.

Mistress Sassy, I still itch now and then, but the selson stoped most the itching. I use it once the itching starts and I am itch free for months.

It's not lots of it or lots of times, I'd say it's occured 3 times.  I do know if I don't feel better by monday I wanna see my doctor. I was debating that, but usualy he just confirms I have mucus in the nose and to drink lots of fluids and rest!

Well at least the scalp thing is under control.
I tried that and no succuss.Have to use T-Gel and a presricption for the spots that really itch.

Please dont wait...if your seeing blood in the coughing up stuff go to the ER like cyber said...an infection in the lungs isnt something to wait on...

Get Well

edited again for spelling...spank the fingers time...LOL

The blood is probably just from your mucous membranes being rubbed raw.

For beating the head cold: Get Cold-Eeze and AirBorne. I just whacked the crap out of a very nasty head cold in three days thanks to both these simple and inexpensive remedies. Cold-Eeze are zinc lozenges, like cough drops, that you take whenever you think about it, about every three or four hours. AirBorne is a tube of tablets that effervesce in water, made of an herbal concoction that is supposed to boost your immune system. Personally (and this may be very much a psych thing) I feel immediately better after taking a dose of AirBorne, period.

jt, I'll try that:) I think I am almost done with this shit anyway cause it's been a week, but you never know. Because James, who gave it to me, he's been coughing for two weeks strait. it's mostly stoped by now though. so I hope I am done quicker than he was.

lime green generally means bacteria.  If it isn't clear after 10 days (total) go get some antibiotics and take all of them on time.

in the meantime, get an expectorant or other mucus loosener so that you cough more gently and productively.

what colors are the nose blow?  any fever?  feel like crap?  sleeping?

It could be the dry air if you have your heat on. (I say if, because I am in New Orleans and the heat is decidedly not on.)  You could use a humidifier, or cheaply boil water too add steam to your air.

There's a really nasty upper resp going around here. My eldest got bronchitis from it, I came down with a sinus infection and an ear infection from it. Always feel so silly getting an ear infection, the kids have outgrown them and I haven't.

If you're coughing up thick green gunk, then get thee to a doctor. That is bad news.
