Last night we bought 4 carniverous plants. Three pitcher plants and one Venus flytrap. Then we bought them all new terrariums, moss etc and transplanted them to their new homes. Now the best part, they had been in the little greenhouse for awhile and were kinda droopy so we fed them ground beef. The flytrap was so fast it snapped shut on the tweezers Scooter was using to feed them. Anybody else have any of these? On an outside note to the ladies (and crossdressers) we hit some awesome sales at Wally world. We found a cart full of sale stuff we wanted, i found two forty dollar strapless bras in my size (hard to do normally) for a few bucks apiece. Plus all the cute little summer cami's and tops with built in bras were the same price. They are clearing out all of last years stock really cheap so go take a look.

Hello A/all, I used to raise carnivorous plants. Venus Fly Traps are nice, but I like the lethal brutality of Sundew and Butterworts. It is also fun to watch insects fall into pitcher plants. Just me, probably wrong because of my bug homicidal mania, but there ya go. Sinergy

Just curious.. i've never seen one of these plants up front. What happens if you stick your hand in a venus fly trap? Does it really have teeth? And how would a plant consume a kitty?? Doesnt a plant have to chew swallow and then have a place to put the kitty? I mean plants have stalks and not stomachs... oo and i was watching a show where an amazon snake (ya know the big ones) ate a gator and then split in two

It's more obvious in the pitcher plants, where you can visibly see the nectar they use to lure in insects, but this "soup" I believe is the caustic material that actually disolves the captor. Sounds kind of morbid actually, but their natural environment in a rain forest likely doesn't allow for many nutrients to be absorbed by the roots, until they would be big enough to get through the rubble of undergrowth on the top of the soil.

I had a very old very large Venus flytrap, it's leaves(picture someting that looks like to open green hands with 25 or so tiny fingers that can interlock when it closes them) were about the size of saucers. Curious kitten climbed the window sill and stepped on one of these "hands" so the plant did what it does, snapped shut with lightening speed trapping the kitten. Luckily i was home, heard the frantic meows and cut it out and washed the poor kitten off otherwise it would have smothered and been digested i'm sure.
