Please help me to understand the difference between a slave and a submissive. I have heard many different definaitions and I am trying to get the right explanation. Thank you so much.

obis -> RE: Slave vs. Submissive (1/14/2007 10:44:10 AM)

It would be easier to figure out how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.

There is no ISO standard definition, so it's totally up to the people involved to decide.

LA will be along in moments with an exhaustive list of previous discussions of this topic. :)

If you insist :)

Lunatic, there's a reason you keep getting so many definitions.

KnightofMists -> RE: Slave vs. Submissive (1/14/2007 12:32:54 PM)

It will be easier to put an elephant through the eye of a needle than to get the right explanation of what is a sub and what is a slave.

juliaoceania -> RE: Slave vs. Submissive (1/14/2007 1:15:19 PM)

But someone will come along any minute to provide their personal definition, followed by the rest of us who do not fit within it... it is almost like a CM ritual, and seeing it as such, it is not as boring as it used to be, but almost like saying "How are you?" when one first encounters a friend.

BRNaughtyAngel -> RE: Slave vs. Submissive (1/14/2007 1:56:06 PM)

This is the third or fourth thread about slaves vs submissives this week. [&:]  Goodness!

Every time I see that title "Slaves vs Submissives" I think of a WWE matchup.......

"Tonight on the WWE, it's the Slaves versus the Submissives.  A head to head battle to determine who
is the "One Twue BDSM Champion"!  Let's get ready to rumble!" [sm=biggrin.gif]

hardworking -> RE: Slave vs. Submissive (1/14/2007 2:32:08 PM)

This might be said before, i too haven't read all threads here, but one defenition could be:

A slave searches the forums and finds out what the difference is.
A sub starts a new treat to find out.

Just kidding!
I think everyone agrees being a slave means you are more committed than a sub would be.
Where the line between those is drawn, is up to the dominant.

Good luck finding out!

bandit25 -> RE: Slave vs. Submissive (1/14/2007 3:11:05 PM)

Actually, hardworking, no, not everyone agrees to that definition.  In fact, I don't think the "amount of commitment" has anything whatsoever to do with being a sub or a slave.  Want to try again?  LOL!

I am one of the most committed people I know. I am committed to my friends, family, pet ownership, why would I not be just as dedicated to my Daddy as I am to all my other commitments, if not more so? I do not call myself a slave, and I bet there are some vanillas that are just as committed as any slave... take my sister and my mother, my mom had two relationships until death parted them, my sister has been married well over 20 years.

And no, a dominant does not decide how committed I am, I do

(showing that one cannot define submissives and slaves[:D])

Why are we going to have another thread on branding as well?

Haha...it didn't take long [:D]

Let's see.....we've now had the 'slaves are more committed' criteria.  Now i'm waiting for 'they can never leave' and 'they have no safeword' and 'subs can say no, not tonight'....lol    Let's see....what other ones are there?

When i first started posting here (Sept or Oct), it seemed these threads were very intense and went on forever and ever.  Now, i am compelled to check them out just for a chuckle  [:-]

Being comitted has nothing do do with the difference in a sub or slave. One is not more comitted than the other. A dominant cannot make someone more comitted, that has to be within the person themselves.

The only right definition is the one that works for you and your partner

i agree, as with most things, the people involved with each other are the ones who decide what things mean to them. When Master and i first got involved i was His submissive, He was my Dom. What that meant to U/us was that i did not take the "vow of absolute obedience." Things were discussed more in advance and agreed to. It felt less formal in terms of my focus. my focus was on Him, but i hadn't gotten to the point where i wanted His will to override mine, His desires to be first and my obedience to be required without discussion.  i was not so focused on being trained to always seek His way first. i did not feel "as" owned as i do now. For me, as a submissive, i feel that i retain more power of choice in different sitations. As a slave, i have freely laid that power at my Master's feet. That's the difference for U/us. It's not meant to explain it for anyone else.

michaels4evr -> RE: Slave vs. Submissive (1/15/2007 8:23:19 AM)

my definitions have evolved so much over the past ten years I've been in the lifestyle..i've concluded the labels don't really mean much outside of oneself or ones own relationships. Anyone looking from the outside into our relationship would probably not reach the conclusion that I am His slave...yet I am.

chances are you'll get the *right* explanation..one that makes sense to you..and then it will change..
