The exorcism of emily rose

Nosathro -> RE: favorite horror movie (1/14/2007 4:07:50 PM)

I have seen many of those movie and even the orginals verisons.  Some of ther remakes were just plan awful.  And don't get me started on the House of Wax with Pairs Hilton.  I will have to say for me it the classic, not special effects as much.  That would the orginal "The Fly" with Vicent Price, that very ending....."Help me....Help me....." I have watched the movie so many times but the end still gets me.

I thought Session 9 was pretty creepy, in more low key way - though some people don't care for David Caruso.

I have a friend who lives near the place where that was filmed... Spooky place. REALLY spooky.

Aileen68 -> RE: favorite horror movie (1/14/2007 4:09:36 PM)

I live about fifteen minutes away from where they filmed the original Friday the 13th.

I'm not a fan of horror movies in general... but I do like alot of the Japanese Horror films. The original Ringu, Uzumaki, Tomie, and Ju'on.

That one creeped me out pretty good - there used to be a website where people explored abandoned facilities like that - I'll have to see if the link is still good.

Is that it, the Dr. Vian Sanitarium?

Chaingang -> RE: favorite horror movie (1/14/2007 4:25:38 PM)

I like Event Horizon. Some of the quick edits have some truly insane imagery. Conceptually the film is fun also - I'd mention more but I'd hate to spoil it for anyone. Good actors, semi silly plot - just fun.

The Eye
The Eye 2
House of 1000 Corpses
The Devil's Rejects
The Texas Chainsaw Masacre
The Devil's Backbone
Pieces <Trashy 80's slasher flick
Rosemary's Baby
Silent Night, Deadly Night <Killer Santa
28 Days Later <super fast zombies
IT
Nosferatu
Shaun of the Dead <not so much scary, but there are zombies
The Hills Have Eyes
Silent Hill
The Shining

The following aren't scary so much as they are gore filled:
Hostel
Audition <it's a slow moving and emotional movie, but the last 15 minutes makes up for that.
Visitor Q <Disturbing, but truly a great movie
Ichi The Killer

Japanese horror is good for gore, so if that is what you are looking for--you might want to check that out.

gretchenS -> RE: favorite horror movie (1/14/2007 4:29:26 PM)

High budget horror movies:
- The shining
- The Omen
- Rose Red (tv mini series, but it's totally worth watching)
- The dark half

Low budget horror movies (their kinda comic, thought):
- The Destist (reaaaaally creeeepy)
- Any old Carpenter movie
- Any movie based on H. P. Lovecraft books (like Re-animator)

Also check some Cronenberg movies... he's not much into horror, but he can certainly make you awkard (check movies like Existenz or The naked lunch).

If you are looking to have nightmares I recomend The Cube or such psychologic horror movies.

Those are just a few, I'm probably forgeting a very large amount of titles.

Edited because I forgot The Hand... directed by Oliver Stone...

Amaros -> RE: favorite horror movie (1/14/2007 4:34:36 PM)

Yeah, I liked Event Horizon - and the original Fly is pretty fuckin' creepy.

I grew up on that Hammer stuff, but one of my favorite Lovecraft adaptations is Re-animator with Jeffrey Combs.

SirKenin -> RE: favorite horror movie (1/14/2007 4:35:06 PM)

Yeah, the Exorcist is amazing.  How could I forget that one?  Rose Red is incredible too.

If you mean Herzog's versions, then definitely a favorite!

Dawn of the Dead -- the original, not the remake

Reanimator

WOLFCREEK! soooooooooo scary.....

Chaingang -> RE: favorite horror movie (1/14/2007 4:37:07 PM)

I think Dead Ringers is considered a horror classic. Cronenberg's Videodrome is also quite creepy and full of interesting ideas.

Amaros -> RE: favorite horror movie (1/14/2007 4:43:38 PM)

Oh yeah, I forgot about Videodrome - how could I forget Debbie Harry's cigarette scene?

LadyKimberly33 -> RE: favorite horror movie (1/14/2007 4:47:11 PM)

Hostel is along the lines of wolf creek and very creepy!!
